Iâve been attending Geek Retreat Truro for the past 3â4 months, regularly participating in their Disney Lorcana weekly leagues. On July 19th, it was publicly announced in their Discord server that the Reign of Jafar Set Championship would no longer be taking place. The reason given was that management was taking a family holiday and didnât have the capacity to host the event.
Previously, there had been mention of a âclosed eventâ in the Discord, but that was quickly dismissed and clarified as incorrect. However, when I asked several local players from the Geek Retreat Truro community about the event, they denied any knowledge of itâonly to later be caught attending the very event that was supposedly canceled.
This situation has left me feeling extremely disappointed. It appears that Geek Retreat Truro misled the wider Lorcana community, effectively shutting out regular league participants in favor of a private event for select individuals. This not only undermines the spirit of fairness and inclusivity, but it also feels like a deliberate act of exclusion.
I'm genuinely shocked by the actions of both the store owners and certain members of the community. As someone who was looking forward to participating in an event that had been publicly promoted, this experience has left a sour taste and has unfortunately damaged my trust...
Read moreInclusivity is a core tenet of Disney Lorcanaâa game designed to foster welcoming, social environments for all participants. Geek Retreat Truro has publicly adopted this ethos as part of its own motto: "Inclusive, welcoming and a social environment for everyone." Regrettably, recent events suggest a disconnect between these values and the actual practices observed by both management and members of the local Lorcana community.
A Set Championship event was held at the venue, yet no public communication was made to the broader player base. In fact, explicit verbal and online statements were made assuring players that no championship would be taking place. It has since come to light that the event was held privately for a select group of regulars. Such exclusionary conduct undermines the trust and transparency required to cultivate an inclusive community.
As Captain Hook would sayâbad form, Truro.
Lorcana isâand must remainâa game that champions openness, fairness, and accessibility for all players, not just a...
Read moreIâm incredibly disappointed with Truro Geek Retreatâs handling of the recent Disney Lorcana Store Championship. They publicly stated that they were not running the event, only for it to be revealed that they did host it in secret. Even more concerning, they deliberately excluded certain player groups and actively manipulated others into covering it up.
This wasnât just a poor decision â it was a personal and unprofessional act of gatekeeping that goes against everything a community gaming store should stand for. Instead of fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, they chose to deceive and divide the player base.
I supported this store in the past, but after seeing this level of dishonesty and exclusion, I canât recommend it to anyone looking for a fair and transparent gaming community. I hope they reflect on this and change their approach, but for now, trust has...
