Ridiculous charge!
I have tried to contact you privately by email but to no avail, so I am afraid this will have to be public.
On Saturday 13th July I, along with 3 others, visited your public house. We ordered 4 drinks and 4 meals. At the end of the meal I asked if it was possible to have tea, and was offered the choice of a pot of tea or a cup of tea. I chose the cup of tea.
I was charged £2.10 which, I feel, is extremely high, especially as a "cup of tea" was not delivered to my table.
I actually received a small glass cup of hot water - with a teabag, a sugar sachet and a small biscuit.
As I was with 3 other people, I didn't want to make a fuss and spoil our day out.
I have since checked with other pubs in the area, including St. Austell Brewery pubs. The County Arms charges £1.45 for a POT of tea, and the Wig & Pen (an establishment run similarly to yours) charges £1.70 for a POT of tea. Both are considerably cheaper than £2.10 per CUP!
In both cases the tea is made prior to bringing it to the table, i.e. correctly, - pouring hot water onto the tea. I was expected to put the teabag into the glass cup of water, which had long since boiled. It is impossible to make a decent cup of tea this way, and it ruined what was otherwise an enjoyable meal.
I was extremely disappointed and, unless you have a very good explanation for such an outrageous charge, will not be visiting your establishment again for some...
Read moreDecent little place, the service was extremely fast. From ordering our food to it being brought to the table took only 10 minutes so again, very fast. As for the food, my partner said her ham, egg and chips was ok, the ham was out of a packet and a little watery, so for £11.50 I thought it could've been a little better quality. I had the scampi and chips with mushy peas. The chips were alright, crispy and fluffy inside, I mean they were frozen chips, not much else to say. The scampi was really nice I thought, I've eaten scampi in a lot of places as it's my favourite and this definitely isn't the worst place for that, as I said, it was quite nice scampi, it wasn't really cheap I don't think which was good. The only thing about that meal, the mushy peas literally didn't taste of anything, they were probably frozen mushy peas, that's my guess but for £12.50, I guess I was satisfied. The staff were really friendly and helpful which was great to see, slot of places of late have got staff that just can't be bothered and tutt and sigh when you ask for a simple little thing but glad to say, the staff here weren't like that. Overall, I'd come back here again if passing....
Read moreWent to the William for Sunday lunch with my son & daughter yesterday, she is vegan. Turned out that the vegan roast option was a 'vegan wellington' with just potatoes as nearly all the veg were cooked in stuff like butter n honey etc! This was very poor & she opted for a vegan burger with chips instead! The turkey roasts were ok, mean on the turkey but most irritating was the fact the meal was only 'warm' on a cold plate! The veg were great n tasty so long as you're not vegan! How do so called chefs manage to create a yorkshire pudding that looks big, impressive & crunchy but when you cut in its just spongy n chewy? Finally, the kitchen is kinda open visibly from the bar, the kitchen staffs attitude was generally 'stuff the customers'! They didn't tell the bar girl they had run out of something until after she had taken the customers order n money. The attitude radiating from the kitchen was summed up perfectly by my son, "they will do what they want & if customers don't like...
