We visited this cafe last week based on the high ratings it had. We were not disappointed! It was hidden about a 1 minute walk from Truro's main shopping area. We were greeted by the owner (John), who advised us that hot meals were not available due to staff shortage. John was very apologetic, but we only wanted cakes and drinks anyway. The cakes on display were AMAZING! There were so many to choose from. John very kindly gave us a run through as to what each one was. We were also advised that there were some cheese scones that had just come out of the oven. My girls chose their cakes and drinks and I opted for the cheese scone. I have it on great authority from my girls that the chocolate fudge cake and lemon drizzle cake were "out of this world!" I can also confirm that the cheese scone was delicious! It was still warm, fluffy and came served with some butter, grapes, chunks of cheese, strawberries and a rather tangy chutney. The choice of hot and cold drinks was very varied. I can recommend the hot chocolate too. The staff here were very attentive. Tiffany was our waitress and she was very charming and polite. All in all, this cafe is a great little find. We will definitely visit again when...
Read moreThis is the most amazing little cafe, hidden away in the heart of Truro. Opposite Boots is a passageway called Pydar Mews, it's along there on the right. Probably the one with the queue outside at opening time and the one during the day with people taking photos of the cakes in the window cabinet. Don't worry, there is room for you upstairs if downstairs is full.
The cakes are what dreams are made of but it is not just cakes that people come for. The breakfasts are divine and lunching there is a ritual for those who have discovered it. The delectable fare is always freshly cooked for you and if you can't eat it all they will pack it for you to take home.
I could go on and on about this home cooked food which is out of this world but with so many superlatives, you would think I am exaggerating. So I suggest you read the other reviews for the fine detail but suffice it to say, when the owners had a cafe in St Ives they won awards year in year out for the best cafe in this part...
Read moreVisited The Cake House today after looking for somewhere we could take our dog. Husband and I both chose jacket potatoes - his was king prawn with Marie Rose Sauce and mine was with ham and pineapple. The ham was delicious, proper home cooked and hand carved, no fat which is a plus for me and three generous slices of fresh pineapple, both served with a lovely fresh side salad. I also had a nice pot of tea. The cakes, at least 8 choices, took a great deal of will power to decline! All four layers, full of cream, some generously decorated with fresh fruit. Service was quick, staff were polite and efficient and it was great to chat to the owner about his dog! Value for money and will definitely make a beeline for here next time we visit Truro. A...
