Across the road from Leicester college, beside Stride next to Belgrave flyover , the first shop on Melton street is the oldest original Chinese/Oriental supermarket opened in Leicester . If you love Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian.. all kinds of Asian food or snacks, and you've never goggled up a recipe of your favourite dish and go to Tai Fat find all your experimental substances (cooking ingredients) and play Master chief on your free day... you are missing out !
Tai Fat is the pronunciation translated from " 大發 " which means " Major Release " as far as my limited Chinese can understand. It's not exactly a fancy store with latest flashy advertisement and marketing tools .. There is an authentic traditional atmosphere as you walk through the front door . Anyway . Good luck...

Prices are on par with the rest of the chinese supermarkets. Some items are a little more expensive but nothing to be too concerned about.
Service is friendly, warm and welcoming.
Do not expect one of the other larger chinese supermarkets interior setups. This place is stocked from floor to ceiling and crammed full of delights.
Only downside is that it's cash only, so make sure you have cash with you.
Would I go...
