An absolutely fabulous experience. This was the second time we’ve been - once in 2022 and then again this week (about 18 months later). My bright 10 & 13 year olds had a fantastic time exploring the familiar and new exhibits - just as much fun as when they were 8 & 11 but their understanding of concepts is greater so it was just as rewarding an experience second time.
Though it seems small, there are loads of exhibits to explore and investigate. The bubbles were an obvious draw but so were the interactive city building and the practical parabola activities. We also enjoyed the new Earth section and will be coming back to test the earthquake table out some more! We stayed for a couple of hours (having arrived later than planned) and both kids want to come back (“tomorrow”!).
Last time we booked online, today we just turned up and both times it wasn’t busy.
Would definitely recommend for home schooling, a weekend activity or school trip! You can let the kids explore for themselves and draw their own conclusions from what they experience and the interesting cards explaining the activities.
Useful to have a website linked with the exhibits to find out more about the activities after the visit too - we enjoyed learning the history of how concepts were discovered and applications in real life.
There’s no parking onsite but we happily paid the town centre rates at the trinity car park which is only a short walk away. MathsCity wasn’t that easy to find inside the centre - it’s on the top floor not the middle floor as we thought - but well worth persevering as it’s a wonderful place and really inspiring to question the maths we see all around us without realising.
What a magnificent resource to have - particularly in the north of England so we don’t have to travel miles to get here! 100%...
Read moreI hadn’t heard of MathsCity until yesterday. Knowing I needed to pop to Leeds for something quick, and with my kids in tow, I was looking online for something we could do to bulk out the day, something they’d enjoy.
This came up on a few Leeds lists, and sounded right up our alley - fun and educational. Not a full day but a few hours of diversion with something in the way of learning possible.
I kept it secret, and when they saw the shopfront they ran right in. While it doesn’t look at first glance as though you might spend long here, we spent two hours lost in puzzles and maths and codes. It was great!
I very proudly worked out codes and cyphers, shapes and games (sometimes even WITH the boys!). The 5 year old loved the tessellating shapes, the 11-year old spent a lot of time with the bubbles. There are dozens of things to do, you can move on or stay with one puzzle as you choose. Staff can help if you’re stuck, explain things, bring little ones a stool so they can see and touch.
The explanatory instructions help and give lots of good science/maths background. I would have spent longer there but the kids got hungry.
Toilets present, accessible throughout, I’d call this a bit of a hidden (and not overpriced) gem. As a school governor I’m also going to be recommending it to both my primary and secondary schools. Very young children will find a lot goes over their heads, it’s best for ages 8-14, but saying that I bet adults get competitive about a...
Read moreVisited Maths City today with my daughter and friends. Had an excellent time challenging our brains and solving puzzles. However, one older (60+) female member of staff seemed to have the special ability of sapping every bit of fun out of the day. Constantly trying to micro manage us and even having the audacity of shouting aggressively at my 9yr old daughter right in front of me, which mad my blood boil!
Every bit of this experience should be enjoyable for young and old and it's a shame one person can ruin something you all worked so hard to create. Please consider giving this lady some training on how to help children learn, grow and have fun as a child in these environments and not to focus on being a little tyrant.
Without her there this would have been a 5-star review...
