When I was little, back in the sixties, steam trains still chugged in and out of the mainline stations. The Angel station had a special place of terror in my psyche. Not only was it impossibly deep, but the platform had tubes running on both sides, I convinced myself that I would be sucked down the tunnel, so I would cling to the wooden benches for dear life. Today's station escalator, the longest single span in London and I believe French made, is not for the faint-hearted, especially going down. The platforms with track either side have gone. The Angel is a lovely place made bland by globalist corporate crap, but don't worry their days are numbered, nothing stays the same, and the old place will regain it's eccentric charms and nastiness.
