Absolutely APPALLING security at this particular branch (Angel, Islington). I was literally followed around the store, and watched with the security guard’s beady eyes, from the very moment I walked into the store! I felt extremely insulted and upset to have been suspected, let alone before I had even walked up to any of the shelves! Mate, if I had been a thief, do you honestly think my first port of call would have been the fridge with the sandwiches, right next to where you were standing? And do you honestly think I could discretely nick anything with a humongous backpack on my back, without taking it off for everyone to witness? You’re following the wrong people! - Try following the person with an extra long coat, or oversized padded jackets, or a shopping bag held close to their basket. Not the poor cow carrying a heavy backpack on her back, loaded with books required for work. Evidently, this security guard’s intellect is rivalled only by garden tools! Furthermore, how about following the legal rule of ā€˜innocent until proven guilty’? - It appears from the other reviewers of this store, that I’m not the only one who has been harassed without reason. Take note of Section 1 of the Protection from Harassment Act, 1997. For all the staff in this store know, I could be a Mystery Shopper. But of course, Mystery Shoppers are barred from disclosing their identity, so I’ll leave you to be the judge on that matter. ;)

I wanted to purchase bread, but sadly was put off by the appallingly unhygienic display. Not sure how this store design has passed - it has a bread display at foot to bottom height. But as if this isn’t off putting enough, there is no glass divide or panel protecting it from coughing and sneezing customers. Not in a single country known for bread (Germany or France for example) you would find a bread display at lower body height - nor entirely open, facing the customers without protection. The bread display is traditionally behind the bakery staff at head height, where customers can see, chose and get it wrapped. An unhygienic, uninformed and not fit for purpose display really negates the purpose of making good bread in the first place - which is a great shame for the product.

Old security guard follows and harasses me around the store aggressively and compulsively every time. Very annoying and uncomfortable shopping experience. I dressed well with no bag and had an entire basket full of shopping. The top dog of racial profiling by a black security guard. Disgraceful behaviour reported to head office. No response from the manager.

Generally a incredibly poor experience in M&S Islington. I bought two pairs of trousers at the beginning of the week, in the knowledge I would be bringing one pair back. The cashier who served me was polite courteous and a joy to be served by. When I mentioned about buying two sizes she told me it would be relatively easy to return the pair which doesn’t fit; how wrong she was… I revisited M&S today to return the pair that didn’t fit and was met with a incredibly rude individual (I can’t remember her name but she had short red hair). I patiently waited at the till whilst she folded clothes for the next 5 minutes, after which she ever so graciously told me to ā€˜come over here then if you want me to serve you’. I gave her the trousers which I wanted to return and explained to her I tried them on but unfortunately they didn’t fit. She insisted to me that she wouldn’t be able to accept them as they had been creased and therefore weren’t able to be resold. She then requested that her manager came over to inspect the creases, after which he concurred that they weren’t able to be returned claiming if they are creased then I’ve quite clearly worn them on multiple occasions. The only time I removed the item from the bag was to confirm which size trousers fit me best. The whole conversation was particularly unpleasant and the way they went about the situation was just rude. If that’s how the individuals choose to treat their customers I’d hate to think how they treat other staff members. I’m overall really disappointed by the level of service and I think the individuals involved should be embarrassed by the way they portrayed themselves. They have really tarnished my view of all individuals working there which is a shame as I’m sure some of their colleagues are as attentive as the first lady who helped me. I categorically refuse to return to the M&S in Islington. Please avoid...

Nothing wrong with the store itself, there is a large selection of everything you need.

I shop there quite often and never had a problem, however yesterday the security guard decided for whatever reason that I was so suspicious he had to follow me around and not be even slightly subtle about it.

After I walked into the store I went to grab some fruit and noticed he went past I don’t have a problem with people doing their job so I didn’t mind however when I went to the next aisle and saw him rushing I thought it was weird but again no problem. I went to another aisle and he just stood and stared at me I started to feel highly uncomfortable, so I changed aisle again to which he again rushed to and this time bumped onto me when I was the only person standing there. I don’t like to complain about people but that was highly uncomfortable for me, and completely unprofessional. I’m a loyal customer and always shop at this store, which makes me even more confused as to why I was treated like I was grade A thief. I read the other reviews and one of them have a picture of him, and the person is saying they complained about it and nothing was...
