Feel Hairdressers Soho ✂ — Local services in London

I moved over from Australia 5 months ago, getting your hair done in a foreign place can be quite daunting, especially when you haven't been referred by a friend or family member so it's up to you to do the research. I work in Soho so I googled Hair Salons in area and Feel was one of the first Salons that popped up. I was very impressed by the reviews other customers had left so I decided to go and visit the salon during my lunch break.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how friendly everyone was, every single person working in there looked up at me and smiled. The place also has a very relaxed yet professional vibe which made me feel very calm. I was greeted at the front desk then was approached by Sandra and Jenna who I told what I wanted done to my hair. Basically I was going from nearly black to a lighter brown, Jenna knew straight away that it was going to be a big job so she sat me down and tested my hair to make sure I wouldn't have any reactions to the products and I also had a few strands cut out so they could test the colour on it. I felt as though this was a very professional way to go about things, Jenna made me feel like I was being cared for so I got a quote from Sandra and booked in for an appointment for the following week.

When I went in the following week I was greeted by Jenna, we talked about what colour I wanted to go and she also talked me through the process. Going from black to a lighter colour isn't always an easy thing to do and it can go very wrong. Jenna was extremely confident, which was reassuring for me because I could tell that she knew what she was doing. Jenna with the help of Amy stripped my hair back to blonde, while that was happening both of the girls and I had a really nice chat which made me feel as though I was sitting at home with a bunch of friends. Jenna then washed the bleach out and put the lighter brown through. Once it was cut and dried I couldn't get over how amazing it looked!!! Jenna had done such a fantastic job!!! It was so nice to be looked after by someone who listened to me to ensure that I was going to get the best result and who is also super friendly and made me feel relaxed and at home within the Feel Salon. I highly recommend going and seeing Jenna if you wanted a cut or colour, she will listen to you, talk you through the process so you know what you're in for and she also offers you her point of view, she knows what she's doing so you can trust her 100%.

To say I am not an easy customer when it comes to hairdressers may just be the understatement of the year. I find the whole process hugely stressful. So having decided to make a big change it was with some trepidation I visited FEEL. Even though it had been recommended to me by a friend I still had my reservations... would they listen nod and then do their own thing? or try to talk me out of having such a big change - so that I ended up with a sad compromise? But No!! Chris was bloody marvelous!!! I'd decided I would tell him about my anxiety and he could not have been more understanding, accommodating or friendly. He did a great cut and really put me at ease. So much so that the next day, when having played around with it at home and not being quite comfortable with the length on top, I actually felt comfortable calling up and popping back in for a tweak here and there... which again he could not have been more lovely or accommodating about. I have spent the rest of the day on cloud nine thanks to him, quietly smiling to myself every time I catch my reflection. I had reservations.. the friend who recommended the place to me has quite edgy hair and I have had experiences in the past where a salon has just put a slightly edgy cut on to my not so edgy shoulders, or just not understood who I was. Talking to Chris it was completely different.. I could tell he really cared about who I was and wanted to get the best cut for me that would make me really happy. I'll be honest when I booked this haircut I booked it as a bit of a treat and a one off and had every intention of returning to my local hairdressing academy for my next cut.. but as I was talking to Chris and he was working on my hair and saying things like "because this is the first time I've cut your hair... I'm still getting to know you and how your hair behaves" I really started to understand (probably for the first time) the value of an ongoing relationship with your hairdresser. I think so often in the past I have been left disappointed that I had almost come to the conclusion that it didn't matter who cut my hair - I wasn't going to enjoy it and it was always going to be not quite what I wanted. So.. I think my one off treat may just become something of a habit.. and that feels really nice.. knowing that when I do want to have it cut again I know where I can go, who will cut it and that they will really care about the outcome. Booking experience - as an expat living in Singapore (who found this salon through online reviews), I booked online via the Yelp appointment messaging function. It was my first time ever using this feature, and I was so happy with the experience. The salon was so responsive, and it made it really easy for me to book even with timezones and my busy Pre-travel schedule.

The service - from start to finish, everyone I interacted with at the salon was incredibly nice and respectful, both to the customers and each other which made for a great experience. They also had me come in a day early to test the toner for allergies, which showed me the level of care/thought they put in, and I was able to align on the plan for my hair with my fabulous stylist Hannah. It was clear from that convo that Hannah knows what she’s doing with blonde highlights AND curly hair - I always ask for recommendations from my stylists (trust the experts!) without me even telling her, she did exactly as I have had done by my hair stylist in the US who had been doing my hair for 5+ years: a mix of blondes to give dimension, extra of the light blonde and layers around my face to frame it, and some light layers in the back for crown volume.

The color/cut - Hannah did a fantastic job with both! The color turned out amazingly natural looking, just the right level warmth, and some shine (which is difficult to get with my dry curly hair). The layers at the face were exactly the angle I like them, and I can see a slight difference in crown volume from the layers in the back.

The price - for the level of service and quality of cut/color, the prices were very reasonable! I had gone to a much more expensive salon in London over the holidays, as I was nervous about a bad result (charging £60 for a blow out, which I was surprised to find wasn’t included in the cut and color), and found that I like my hair from Feel just as much as that salon and actually preferred the service of Feel (much warmer and more personal).
