I had a particularly unpleasant time in M&S Oxford Street. I know they are being redeveloped but in the basement where the men's clothing is the signs for the fitting rooms all clearly pointed upwards towards the ground floor which in turn directed me towards fitting rooms straight through the centre of the lingerie department. There were no signs anywhere to tell me or anyone male that they were not allowed to try clothing on in this fitting room. Or indeed not even allowed to stand in the entrance! Bearing in mind all the individual rooms have lockable doors to entirely protect any genders privacy. I was first told I was not allowed in that area when all I had done was stand in the doorway. I enquired where then could I find the mens / male fitting rooms. The actually reasonably helpful young lady didn't know but kindly used her radio to ask a colleague. Who appeard, quite literally told me off and marched me away from the lingerie section like I was some kind of voyeur! I asked again where the mens fitting rooms where? She told they were downstairs in the basement and to follow the signs, which as I've said would result in me ending up back where I was at that moment in the lingerie section! So, I politely asked to be shown where the male fitting rooms were and was then very quickly and stroppyly marched back down the stairs and around a corner to the back of the tills where indeed hurrah, there were fitting rooms. Remember, all the signs pointed in the wrong direction! I was by now expecting these fitting rooms to be male only perhaps as they were in the Mens clothing section, especially given that the others were clearly female only despite no signage to inform me. No! There were probably more ladies in this enormous queue than at the other one. I joined the queue and quietly waited, by now almost giving up the will to live in my quest to buy a simple pair of trousers. To my surprise after a few minutes a young lady appeared who then told us all we didn't need to be waiting and we could go upstairs to the fitting rooms in the lingerie section! At which point I shouted "just don't go up there if you are male as you will very quickly be ejected".
There are so many double standards at play here it's incredible. God only knows what you would do if you identified as anything other than male or female! You would be completely screwed. For me I couldnt care less whos in the same fitting rooms, as they have private lockable doors, but if you are going to ban men from the ladies area, surely men can expect the same courtesy in their area. Plus the customer service received as a man was shocking! To top it all off M&S don't even stock the full range of sizes that they sell "in store" so my visit was a complete waste of time! I was told I would have to order online if I wanted a size to fit me! Thank you for wasting or rather helping me to waste over an entire hour of my life! I will certainly not be returning in a hurry! Flagship store!...
Read moreI just had the worse shopping experience here in this shop. I was trying the perfume in the beauty section for 15-20mins as they had some many options and I took pics of the ones I like . After 10 minutes of trying, one security guy came stand at the section. I did not really care, but after a while I started to realised that he was checking on me. But I did not really care until he followed me to the -1 floor home section. I saw him. And the other staff after speaking to waki taki, he started to follow me. Another point I can confirm he was following me was when I left the perfumes on a table and about to find the way to leave the shop , he told me the way to the exit and asked me: you are paying the perfumes ? ( I didnât take the perfumes and who is asking like this to a customer, assuming I am the thief ? ) I told him : no because it seems like you were following me! What I really would like to know is what did I do wrong? Because I was there for 20 mins ? And also if you think I am suspicious, you should have just used waki taki to tell your colleagues to pay attention on me. Not following me! That is very poor customer service and very poor talking skills! Should retrain your staff. In the end I still came back to buy the perfumes because I really like them. But will definitely not coming back to...
Read moreToday i went to this store, it started fine when I returned an item so helpful. I then went to the menswear department. It was appalling that all the racks were full of sizes S, M, L, XL and very little XXL I saw less than a handful of XXXL seems marks and Spencer only cater for thin men. I did ask the first staff member who suggested that the marble arch store was 4 mins away maybe by car on empty road. Not for a disabled person walking response sorry and walked off. I went on to look t tops and asked a girl who was staning at a little desk here to help. I explained my dislike to this problem. Response yeh I know in winney voice I asked for a manager again explained what was my issue and he wasn't much better. I pointed out that of you go downstairs to ladies ware the size s available go from size 8 - 26 ummm maybe I should have been born a woman. Atleast I could get cloths that fit. The manager I spoke to told me the bigger items must have sold I pointed out yet all the small sizes are still on the rack. I then went to food Hall and had to go to ground floor to get reception to activate my offers 21st century and m&s don't think its important to have receptionin their store. Need to get intouch with...
