Camden is probably London’s live music heartland, and the wonderfully small and intimate Green Note is a relatively recent (since 2005), but altogether excellent, addition to the independent scene. There’s live music nearly every night of the week (just check the website to see what’s coming up on the musical horizon). Blues, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, world, roots, it’s all there and it’s all good. There’s even the occasional spoken word and comedy night. And Green Note nearly always hits the right note.
Painted portraits of musical legends like Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell decorate the walls like a shrine. Out front, you’ll find the small restaurant seating area, with the stage in the back behind a curtain. We love exposed brickwork of which there is plenty, with cushions and candlelit tables to comfort the weary.
Ribeye lovers beware: it’s a vegetarian café/restaurant as well, serving up organic tapas style food from around the world for the non-meat aficionados. Only a 5-minute saunter down from Camden Town tube station. But remember to book in advance as it gets crowded and crammed pretty quickly.
Thanks for the tip off: Tom Kavanagh, Hannah Etc, Julian Davies, Jon Mazliah,...
Read moreWhat a fantastic small venue specialising in folk, roots and acoustic music. The entrance is a shop front that is easily missed. After entering and paying you pass through a curtain into the bar /stage /seating area. The venue is narrow but goes back quite a way. The walls are exposed brick and the overall effect is rustic but tastefully done. At the far end is a small bar offering some craft beers and a variety of largers as well as spirits, coffees and teas . Seating is arranged around tables. I did not investigate whether food is ever available. The stage is a small raised podium next to the entrance. I estimate seating capacity is about 50, standing at the back near the bar is also permitted. The whole venue is intimate and aimed at those who come to listen to the music. The pa system is very well balanced, the sound is top quality. This is the venue to come to if you are serious about...
Read moreMy first time visit here to enjoy a brilliant performance by Alicia Edelweiss. Acoustics seemed good to me, and I felt comfortable perched on a beer barrel with a cushion on top near the rear bar area. There are tables with seats too,of course. Nice looking food is available,as well as drinks. The atmosphere was relaxing between sessions. I sensed a reassuringly attentive mood in the other audience members during the singing and playing. I thought everyone there were dedicated, and knowledgeable live music fans which made for a very satisfying experience. Green Note is a nice, cosy place to see interesting...
