Over the past year, I had a haircut with a perm and down perm with both Grace & Summer, as well as follow-up haircuts with Grace. I've just been blown away by how professional and stylish the haircuts they give are, but also by how kind and attentive they were to my requests and concerns.
For most of my life, I have gone to hairdressers largely comfortable with western hair and haircuts; very short on the sides. While those kinds of haircuts look good in the moment and can still look good in the later weeks if you have typically softer, Western hair, if you have stubborn Asian hair that refuses to stay down, after 2 weeks or so it looks disproportionate because of how spiky/puffy your sides and back are relative to the rest of your hair. I found this made my face seem bigger or rounder, and could only really prevent this by getting the sides trimmed every 2 weeks, or using product to literally stick the sides down, both of which were annoying and were really solving symptoms instead of the underlying problem. Most of these concerns were cleared up when I had my first appointment with Grace. My sides were downpermed to prevent that spikiness / puffiness and I felt like she took great care to make the rest of the haircut fit my face well, but also cut it in such a way that it still looks good as it grows out. Some might say overly focusing on your hair is unnecessary, but when you have a haircut that is expertly done and fits the proportions of your face well, it makes a big difference.
The salon itself has a nice vibe to it and the staff are friendly and so hard working, I find myself leaving refreshed and with a good haircut, but also thinking "Wow, I have to work harder in my own life too.." lool.
If you're someone with stubborn Asian hair, looking for a hair salon that can understand and style for its peculiarities, then I would say there is no better place in London than Ikkar Hair. But honestly, regardless of your hair type, you'll be in good hands. My only 'complaint' is that they don't have a salon in Bristol, so I can only get my hair cut when I'm back from...
Read moreIt seems silly but my hair has always been deathly straight ever since I was a teenager, my hair used to be curly like my dads when I was little but I soon inherited my thai mums hair (hers is black and silky but mine is brown) and I struggled to find a hairdressers that would understand my hair because everywhere they used to cut on my hair, you can see the strands and it doesn’t blend very well (if that makes sense?) and I always wondered why everyone else’s haircuts always looked nice and neat but mine was very plain and weighed down because of how straight, fine and flat it was.
I decided to try ikkar hair for the first time last year because I thought if anybody would understand my hair, it would be here. I initially went for a perm for my first appointment but KD recommended I didn’t as I had bleach still in my hair which I didn’t know, he was very informative as well when getting my hair cut. He suggested I do soft layers to frame my face and I was hesitant because the last time I had layers, it went badly. However, I loved it and when my hair grew out, you couldn’t tell that I had split ends or that I was due a haircut, it grew out so nicely.
I visited again for the second time a few days before my graduation in July because I loved it so much and wanted the photos to look nice! And the head massages when you’re getting your hair washed is lovely. Also because they were behind schedule on this day, KD did a treatment on my hair free of charge which was lovely, felt like a spa almost.
Now my recent visit I booked in for a digital perm as my hair was back to its natural colour with no bleach. I was super excited for it and not sure what to expect, and KD was super friendly and delivered as always. The way he cuts my hair is the way I’ve always wanted my hair to look like but normal hairdressers in my area wouldn’t quite get. My perm was well worth the wait as well and has boosted my confidence a lot! I travel up from Kent now just for my hair as I don’t think anywhere could compare and it’s worth the investment. Would highly recommend!...
Read moreI just came from a scalp and hair treatment From the moment I stepped into the shop, I was greeted by Jack, told him about my reservation and within few minutes I was taken to a chair where I was offered a green robe, then Jennie came and asked me question in relation to the treatment I’ve chose. We have a chat and she was asking all the relevant questions. Then took pic of my scalp and hair ( which gave me an idea the seriousness of the issue ) then explained and showed me the products she’s going to use. Then while she covered my eyes with a towel and my face with another towel that was nicely aromate , started the treatment , we have a chat where she told me her qualifications in the field. She was good at what she was doing, although I thought that a man’s hand would have massage my head harder , something that I probably need it. Then 5 min treatment that she covered my hair with some cover and zipped it up. Felt good , felt something was happening to my scalp. Pros: Everything about the treatment was feeling good. She didn’t forced any sales on me , which means she will let me make my own decision and judge the treatment which I prefer, I will definitely 100% repeat the treatment. Cons: At some point while having nu eyes covered with a towel , her male colleague whispered something in another language than English which I didn’t feel comfortable. This is a constructive criticism not a negative criticism. I will definitely return and...
