attentive service and nice waitresses but the place is really badly maintained. ushered into the back of the restaurant and immediately broke out into a rash due to all the dust. looked around and the place was covered in huge cobwebs. the fried chicken and tempura were too too dense and greasy so I ended up having to take breaks due to an immense headache. also had the wakame and tofu salad - the tofu was drowning in sesame dressing and was spilling everywhere because they were precariously stacked on a really small shallow plate. proportions of fish to rice were totally off in the ngiri and rice spewing out the ends of the hosomaki pieces. kitsune udon: the udon itself was actually quite good - nice and chewy, but the broth base was totally bland and had 0 depth of flavour or umami. the lack of care with the food is totally incongruent with what's expected of japanese food - care and precision. i refuse to believe that any Japanese chef or any Japanese-trained chef would put up food like that. really disappointed considering this place advertises itself as a 'Japanese fine dining' establishment when this is neither 'fine dining' nor is it 'Japanese', so I'm not sure how this is reflected in their obscene prices . avoid - this is a gimmick and they also play cringe-y japanese zen garden music to try and fool you. better off going...
Read moreMe and my Parents have been looking around for a good Japanese restaurant and I think I have found one! For 3 people we paid around £32 per person and Ordered Deep Fried Squid tentacles, Agedashi tofu and Chicken Gyoza for starters. I found the squid batter to be to dry but everything came with some sauce : soya sauce, chilly sauce or spicy maki sauce. For the sushi we got rainbow maki which was 8 pieces and spider maki which was 6 pieces both were £16. For the sushi there were many different options with individual sushi rolls, sushi sets or shared plates varying from £14 -£26 depending on the number of pieces and ingredients. Which tasted amazing and were really good quality. For the mains we got one Chicken and one Pork Katsu curry that came in fairly large serving with lots of curry sauce and sliced breaded fillet of Pork/ Chicken . The menu had a variety of other meals aside from the ones mentioned including small and regular Donburi bowls, noodle dishes, soups and bento boxes as well as a lunch menu. For drinks we had Japanese green tea and Asahi beers, service was good you had the option to stagger starters an mains and you didn't have to wait that long for the food. Over all great place hidden just off...
Read moreThis is NOT an UPSCALE restaurant in anyway shape or form.
The front exterior looks decent, but inside is that a regular cheap diner.
When you walk-in you have loose wires on the ground, the cheap looking plastic plants, dirty plastic bamboos.
Not only they were playing chinese music ( maybe thinking that westerners cannot make the difference) but they lied about.
Then came the me menu… long as a novel… the only thing missing were pictures of the food like you see it in touristy places.
I asked for a hot green shochu ( my favorite everywhere in Japan), but they had never heard of such a thing.
I expected an upscale japanese experience but it appeared neither upscale neither japanese ( all the personnel spoke chinese amongst each other).
I felt disappointed and cheated that I paid 28£ for the drinks we ordered and left ( without touching the drinks).
As a result I cannot comment...
