Extremely disappointing. If you are looking for trains, do NOT come here. You will be looked at in a funny way. I have been a customer at this store for almost 10 years. I stopped in for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and when I stopped in there were no trains, to my surprise. I wanted to purchase something on the layout but they said no and I was confused considering nothing was being used. Nobody offered to help me look at the trains, and as a customer who has spent $1,000 dollars on train items in the past here, this was disappointing. The worker said that the train hobby is a dying hobby, which showed his lack of enthusiasm to sell me anything regarding trains. They refused to sell me any train on the layout even though I highly doubt they are being used at all.
The train selection is extremely poor unlike when I first started coming here. There is only 1/4 of an aisle for trains. When I found something, I was looked at in a funny way when I asked if there was a possible 10% discount they could give. The worker refused and I was shocked considering I highly doubt any train sale has been made in the past here.
What bothered me the most is when I asked if I could use reward points. They only said āevery 90 daysā, which I understand but I have been a customer for years here and not to be offered any discount after buying tons of items here in the past and on an item that will sit at this store for 6 more months is disappointing. The workers did not seem to care how disappointed I was, and honestly I was upset about the whole experience. I will not be coming back, unless this store answers back here and makes me feel valued as a customer who has once...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI highly recommend going somewhere else for yugioh tournaments/events. Want expensive overly charged booster boxes for $94.00+ tax that can be bought at other locations for $65.00-$70.00?! This place is your go-to! I always thought their yugioh local tournaments/events were good until they changed their tournament "host," mike. Dan was a lot better tournament organizer years back and way more organized who actually knew the rules. The host should not be able to run the tournaments AND participate at the same time. It's against policy. Unfortunately this is what their new "host" mike does all the time since he wants to be in control and no one else. A lot of people have been noticing that the pairing system is always rigged letting the new "host" be paired up against the "easy" people always to avoid facing any of the other competitive players. Not to mention the fact that a lot of us have been noticing him "scaling" ots packs and helping himself to other packs from the back counter/drawer without anyone noticing...(or so he thinks). If you're really going to do things like that, why are you even allowed to be the tournament organizer, let alone being allowed in the store if you know what he's doing is unacceptable...Shame that a person like this would do this to the store under their nose and Its no wonder he always gets the "best" cards for himself. If I can give this place no stars for yugioh alone I would. Everything else about this place is very good EXCEPT for yugioh all because of how its run, who its run by now, the ridiculous price for products and the atmosphere it gives off. You have definitely lost more players now because of that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve never been to hobby shop in matawan, but I checked out the reviews before I went in, and I figured Iād give it a go. I went to the back, and started checking out trading card selection that (Bob) had. Immediately, I told the guy upon looking at 3 cards that the guy who runs that little shop a rip off. A single card that is going for 40-60 dollars on other markets heās reselling for 180-240. As a reseller myself, I know the market is only what the consumer is willing to pay for it, but thatās the literal of extreme price gauging, and makes all resellers look bad. Not only that, heās doing it in a well established store that has a great track record. Hobby shop should really be embarrassed to be working with someone like that. He was selling select blaster boxes that have a retail value of 19.99 before tax for 199.99. He was selling ufc prizm mega boxes that have a retail value of 199.99 for 950 dollars. The guy bob that runs the sports memorabilia wasnāt there Sunday it was another employee. I asked him how this was moral, and he said i donāt know how bob conducts business this is his thing, and he does his thing. Beware of that place. All these things heās price gauging at 4-10x the actual value, and you can get them on any other platform a tenth or a quarter of what heās selling it for and thatās only because people have to pay fees, and shipping which bob does not. I will be contacting consumer division of affairs this morning, and hopefully succeed in getting the...
