The store had a recent renovation. It is clean inside and out. The management and staff are friendly. I do enjoy talking with many of the employees. I would rate store higher if I only had the to consider the employees that work here. Most of them are very polite, helpful and friendly. I would like to give this store a higher rating but I can't for several reasons.
I have voiced concerns about the quality of produce (below standard.. some so bad I would never sell to customers if I owned a store or certainly I won't buy for my family).
Example: Low quality Avocados. I have mentioned this repeatedly to employees, the management and the the produce manager. I told them that I was very dissatisfied and I would not buy their avocados. I also don't like the fact that they sell the avocados from other countries rather than support local or even US grown. Not as good quality as Ralph's which is 3 blocks south on Brookhurst at corner of Brookhurst and Ball Rd. Certainly grossly over priced on almost every produce item.
The store manager, Chaz is very nice, professional and easy to talk with. He has an exceptionally pleasant manner. I would like to note that that a change was made regarding buying US avocados after talking with him... but that didn't last very long.
I reasoned with store management that I had noticed a large number of avos were being wasted and thrown out daily; that would drive the selling price up. The produce man didn't seem to like my discussing this with him. Also, the stores regular pricing of $.99 to $1.25 is far too high for low quality very small, bruised, and over ripe avos.
I am now buying better avocados at a different store for less than 1/2 the Stater Bros price. I decided to look for another store to do my regular shopping because Stater Bros over charges and they don't seem to respect my opinion or views regarding these suggestions and my observations (this store is only Stater Bros that I shop). Other produce is over priced and not very tasty.
Another more serious problem I discussed with store management was about an "additive" in some of their bakery products. After reading the labels I found many products had various forms of aluminum. Please excuse my ignorance but I am sorry, aluminum is not an acceptable food additive for me. I stopped buying Stater Bros bakery goods. Other members of this family also are not eating or buying any of aluminized bakery products sold by Stater Bros. I discussed this with several of the stores managers many times; I do quite a lot of research so I presented the question, "would you want to buy and feed this to your own family"? The response was silence. Recently I shopped at this store and the labels (I didn't check all of them) seemed to show NO aluminum. Maybe they corrected this...
Satisfying my sweet tooth in other stores though, thank you.
Note: I am not telling you what to do but I believe we all should be reading labels and voicing complaints continuously if the food is below a standard or unhealthy.

Read moreThis grocery store is the best grocery store I have ever been to when it comes to customer service and when I say that, I mean individualized service and it has been that way every since the first day I stepped into this store. Kinda gives you the feeling of being a store way back in the 1800's, (like "Little House on the Prairie," with Nel's Oleson and minus Mrs. Oleson, the gossip and drama filled queen) where service was everything and besides, you didn't want to insult the neighbor because it was your neighbor who 100% always had your back and that in today's terms, that gesture alone is priceless!!!! This store I will say is lacking a little on selection but again, they make up for it and more with their customer skills, smiling faces nd always there to lend a helping hand, oh and will even send an employee with you if disabled and need help putting groceries from reaching onto the shelves and putting items in your basket, putting items on the register to be rung up, no matter how many items you have and will even load up your car, the whole shopping experience you didn't lift a finger and the employee did it with a smile, joked with you as if you have been friends for years and left you with the feeling , Someone actually cares!!!" Job well done Stater Brothers on Brookhurst!!! Would drive out of my way 20miles to shop with you!! You have won my loyalty hands down and it would be super hard to top what you have already mastered!!!! Thank you so much for making my shopping experiences with you...
