I was at the hospital about a week ago, for my aunt who was there for treatment. The nurses and techs were kind people, at least the ones I met and only one of the doctors were very attentive, the other seemed to rush as if he was trying to come in and get out as soon as he could. Im not too sure how the rest of the staff were for the days i was not up to visit. We also heard nurses in the hall gossiping which didn’t leave a good impression but I just shut the door to keep out the noise. We were staying on the 6th floor of the hospital and were in the bed closest to the door, I just want to say, I hope the cleaning crew gets paid what they deserve. There was a kind young man who came in to clean the bed next door to ours, and not only did he get every detail of the room but was very respectful and even chatted with us for a bit to lighten the mood. My aunt said he was one of the hardest young workers she had seen in a long time and I agree. I feel as though young people dont work as hard nowadays. He offered to clean anything we needed on his way out and gosh, he was just such a sweet boy. Thank god we got his name, we will not forget him. His name was DJ, shorter young man. U of M, I hope you treat these workers the same you treat your nurses, they deserve a lot more recognition in this work environment. I would say our experience overall was 3 stars but he made our stay more comfortable than it was by just being kind, genuine, and thorough with his job. Shame we didnt get a chance to run into him again on our way out. Keep up the good work...
Read moreI had to go through emergency in the afternoon and it took 12hrs to get a bed. After admittance I noticed that the nursing staff and doctors do not call back patients immediate relatives for updates. The nursing staff act like they are so busy but when I go to visit their just sitting on the butts talking or looking at computer screens. On top of that, when I do speak to the nurses they act like I'm bothering them and it's to much of issue for me to ask about my relative. Also, I found out that the nurses, particularly with the ones I dealt with, do not note concerns that I had about my relative to the doctor. So when I do speak to the doctor they also say "something must've gotten lost in communication." Yeah! It's called lazy staffing. So far, in 4 days, I left the nurse and doctor 14 messages because no one returns my call or addressing my concerns. It shouldn't take 4 days for them to return a simple call to update parents on their child's progress.... and when I do visit I noticed that the greeting from the staff is short and conversation minimum but with white people the greetings and conversations are engaging. I'm not impressed with U of M hospital staff and I feel deeply bothered with their lack of...
Read moreBeen in and out of malnutrition and Everytime i go in to get help i always face difficulty. I believe it is because im homeless and i speak my mind when i get screwed over. This one time i had the meal slip in front of me yet as soon as i get it filled out i get escorted out and had missed dinner. How can the #1 rated hospital deny someone food? Its inhumane and unjustified. A hospital is there to help those in need and yet i get the worst treatment and resentment from my doctor and nurses. Yes i complain about the service, but homeless people need to eat to. This system is inconsiderate to the needs people have. Thus hospital could end homeless hunger but their pockets are too fat and stuck up for any proper help where someone actually needs it. I have servere cavity decay and so most the food given out i cant be eat by and i feel my body decaying every day cause i cant be eat appropriately. This needs to change and today they finally gave me tickets for $10 worth of food but i still had to fight arm and leg for it. Malnutrition is a real problem and it needs to be changed for the betterment of...
