I recently had the pleasure of capturing portraits at a hidden gem in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I must say, it was an absolute delight. The Nichols Arboretum's picturesque grounds provided an exquisite backdrop that breathed life into my photographs, infusing each shot with natural beauty and charm. In the heart of Ann Arbor, this location offers not only stunning natural landscapes but also the convenience of being centrally located. It's a haven for photographers, offering a diverse range of backdrops and settings within close proximity, leading to an endless array of creative possibilities. From the tranquil pockets of nature to every corner of the Arboretum, the place lends itself to crafting unique and captivating portraits. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, what truly sets the Arboretum apart is its strong commitment to education and enrichment. As a photographer who constantly seeks locales that can elevate my craft and captivate potential clients, I found the Arboretum to not only meet but also exceed my expectations in every aspect. For those in search of a remarkable setting that seamlessly combines breathtaking scenery, an unbeatable location, and the opportunity to create profound, educational portraits, the Nichols Arboretum stands as an exemplary choice. I eagerly anticipate further collaborations with this venue, confident that its essence will continue to inspire and captivate anyone seeking an exceptional photography experience. aharrisphoto dot com

The peonies bloomed a week early this year due to the hotter weather. Previously full bloom would fall on the last week of May to first week of June. There is a small carpark near the gardens but it fills fast unless you get here very early. If you come on Sunday, you can park in one of the nearby parking garages downtown and walk 10-15mins over, which I quite enjoy. Given how warm it was this year, I opted to grab a cold fruit tea from a boba tea store downtown before walking over. The peonies are beautiful to look at this year as always and the gardens are busy with lots of people around. Bring your camera cuz you'll want to take pictures, or bring a mat and have a picnic with friends. It's such a lovely place to relax in on a weekend.

What a gem! When you walk in you are transported to a serene forest and you can completely forget you are right in the middle of a bustling city. Explore miles of trails filled with various flowers, plants, and trees along the river. You can also relax in the peony garden or stroll along the river. You will find a map to guide you near each entrance. Some trails are well marked and easy to travel, with a few a bit more rustic. It can be a bit of a climb but the views are worth it. We found parking to be a bit of a challenge at the Gateway Garden. I would have liked to see more plants and trees marked/labeled as we enjoy learning about plants and adding variety in our yard. All in all a refreshing way to spend a few hours.

I visit here at least 1-2 week with my doggo. We (and especially he) loves it. Beautiful space with lots of winding trails and some formal gardens (love the peonies!) Only concerns are: at times it is very busy and somewhat noisy. Some people play music off of their phones, or large gaggles of college kids meander about, sometimes there's drones, and often the hospital helicopters are standing by or flying. Lastly, the train: it's not fenced off, is very loud and I get worried doggo will bolt and jump on front of it. Maybe I'm paranoid, but what u gonna do. Still love it!

A beautiful nature-filled paradise in Ann Arbor. Thoroughly enjoyed walking through here while visiting the city. Plenty of well trodden paths, but also some routes to let yourself get lost in the wilderness. I imagine the gardens look fantastic in the spring and summer but it was the autumn foliage in the wooded areas that were on display in October. Very tranquil down by the river, trying to spot (unsuccessfully) the Blue Heron. Feels quite safe in the day with all the students using it for exercising, but could become quite lonely at night.
