Used to love it here but their prices are now competing with, and are sometimes higher than, most big brand stores. Keep in mind that stores like the 99 are just a form of damage control for the big brands to sell their sub-par or near expired goods to: that's why items go in and out of stock here. There are some products here that are of good quality, and I'll always come here for milk, but be aware that in many cases, you may be paying more for less at stores like these. Also can't stomach the constant price change tactics used to trick innocent shoppers into paying more than they expected. You have to ask prices before you buy, or just be willing to turn down a bunch of stuff at the checkout stand after it's already been scanned; and they know that most people won't turn items away after this point. Avocados here almost always turn out stringy and brown: I'll take a bag of 6 for 50 cents and hope that I get 2 decent ones out of it, but I'm not willing to gamble $2.50 on it. The cantaloupe melons almost always never ripen, and that's because these melons have been picked too early from the vine and therefore, were sold to the 99 at a discount, so that they can throttle prices for us, and we can throw our money in the garbage can (or, if it pains you to be wasteful: to the wildlife or compost bin). This used to be where I did most of my shopping, but after being through everything I mentioned above, I started going to WinCo more often. BONUS tip: 99 pasta falls apart after being boiled, but WinCo brand pasta has a firmness and bite that I can't recall finding anywhere else. Up until recent inflationary pressures, WinCo pasta was only around $1.00 a bag for a variety of different types, but it's now $1.20 a bag, which is well worth the extra cost. The 99 may be asking $1.50 a bag: you'll...
Read morewell I had a feeling this like so many have come and gone. Yes this 99 cent store is still in the location of the old Ralphs but like the rats took over the ship then. Now the rats are gone but this one is also sinking with the newer captain Mike yes all smiles and arrogance as he presented himself. I/we now know why this manager was transferred to this once happy store where I would visit daily. That's all in the past where there was merchandise once lined the iles now are empty or filled with duplicity Ho come on .yet the shelves are neat and orderly and they say you can slap some lipstick on a, well you know. Now people that could come to something new and it was good now no smiles no merchandise and what in return! well I see this man with his experience with how to put on a good show with us waiting for the next big deal. Gone!!! A new Captain or so it seems? A tip from a former man in the know that retired and was not forced out. One can learn from one's decades of knowledge and might be worth listening to, #1 never antagonize a paying customer because this industry is one of the best because everyone must eat but we can shop anyplace so if you had a long day wait till the last one is out the door before you act an poorly. it's one of the best tips to success for the market manager and paramount to anyone new to Apple Valley and this consumer's dollar and I step off for a moment because if I'm wrong and this guy is not the New Manager of the 99 cent store someone up top should inform this fellow to #1 knock it off #2 have this person learn how to act professionally and #3 have this Manager take a lesson on proper management attire. You know who I am and every team member will be sad I no longer come and be part of a good day at the...
Read moreGood shopping, really miss the Ralph's market that is where the 99cent only store is now. The Dominos pizza place is great, always busy but not very long of a wait when I go there and very friendly staff. CVS is there, good variety in the store but a bit pricey, I go there only if I need to. I used to go to the nail shop there, stopped going when I developed a nail fungus after getting my nails done there. Small gift shop, vitamin store, dentist, a so-so Mexican restaurant, smoke shop there also. The Chinese buffet that was there was very good, then one day closed, now sits vacant. Another small shop next to that is also empty. The area is sketchy, alot of homeless, kids, hang around the area, definitely lock your vehicle when there. The 99cent only store has good variety of items, applied there for a job in July of this year, was interviewed by the manager, who I feel didn't give me a decent interview, his manager called in the middle of my interview, was on phone with her for approximately 15 minutes, so I feel I didn't get the attention for that job interview that I deserved. I still...
