Another day, another introduction to a company by warehouse behemoth, Costco, to yours truly.
BRIEF HISTORY: Phillips was founded in 1956 by Hoopers Island, MD couple, Brice & Shirley Phillips. Their tiny operation blossomed into a plethora of seafood products, including crab cakes, lump crab meat, calamari, crab & spinach dip, burgers, sauces and soups. They also sport a few restaurants of the same name in Baltimore, Ocean City and Washington D.C., including a few airport locations in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Harrisburg, Hartford and Newark. Or if you happen to be gambling, they're also in casinos at Foxwoods and Seneca Buffalo Creek.
THE GOODS: Crab Cake Minis My gout and I LOVE crustaceans, especially crab! As I skimmed the Costco sale book, I noticed a box of these were on sale for around $15. After asking a few co-workers if they ever tried them and not getting any "yeses", I figured I'd roll the dice as Costco usually sells only good stuff. The box consists of 36 little balls of joy. I popped half of them on a cooking spray-lined tray and baked them from frozen in the toaster oven at 450 for 9 minutes. They came out still in the shape of a mini cake but insanely moist. The cakes were made up of all crab meat with a miniscule amount of filler, if any. No sauce is included but a recipe on the box is. My spouse whipped up some kind of homemade sauce but they really don't need any accompaniments as there was so much good, natural flavors. I brought them to the beach for a snack and they were a hit. Highly recommended!
OVERALL: Because their crab cakes were do delish, I won't hesitate to scoop up any of their other products should I come...
Read moreI had a crab sandwich at the bar. The sandwich was cold. The meat was cold. The bun was cold and the fries were hot. I’m very disappointed. I’m traveling from North Carolina and staying down the Street and very disappointed in the quality of the food and the service and explanation concern concerning the food was terrible. Please refund my money. I have eaten Phillips a few times and it was unbelievably good. it seems as though the quality and taste of the food has gone horribly wrong. This was not a good lunch. The first thing I had to do was brush my teeth to get this taste of whatever it was out of my mouth. It was not good please...
Read moreThis critique is regarding there line of frozen soups. I've never been to their restaurants. I happened to spot their lobster bisque while in the freezer section. This is far better than any other soup I have ever tried.
I would like to sample the other 3 seafood soups, but can't find them at my local Publix store in Fort...
