They've got lots of fun stuff happening here year 'round - Levitt is a centerpiece for Arlington's big seasonal festivals like the Christmas lights parade and the 4th of the July festival, but it also hosts a free summer concert series, shows movies on the large outdoor movie screen, and periodically hosts food trucks. They book a great variety of artists, which is great - everything from classical to jazz, to rock/pop, and there's a great range of local, regional, and national acts.
The stage is large and flexible, making it great for all different kinds of musical groups, but the seating is 100% uncovered, so if there's any chance of rain at all you may want to bring a rain jacket and a chair. Also, the viewing area is entirely grassy hillside - you can make a seat out of the raised planters and concrete steps around the edges, but those fill up pretty quickly for the popular shows, so if you have a problem with grass, you may want to at least bring a blanket.
The only real drawbacks are parking and acoustics. The parking is tricky since it's downtown - there isn't much dedicated parking, and what little there is is frequently closed down for larger events. Granted, there's plenty of free street parking available in the area, but you should plan to walk a few blocks unless you get lucky. As for the acoustics, the mix is somewhat inconsistent, which is probably partly due to bands bringing in their own equipment and partly due to the outdoor conditions, but it can make the live performance experience a little hit-and-miss. Overall, though, it's a great outdoor venue and a lovely way to spend an evening or afternoon enjoying the most agreeable weather of the year while getting a healthy...
Read moreThere's so many great artists that come through here. Been coming here for years now. So now it's gaining popularity and you have to get there now to get a good parking space and also a great spot on the lawn. I like now that they have vendors so you can buy food there. The porta-potties aren't that bad here either. The Levitt has a pretty good summer schedule and can't wait to see who will be there during their fall schedule. I've seen Trombone Shorty, Big Sam's Funky Nation and all sorts of folks here. They even have a night where they have music just for the kiddos. In order to keep the programs free here, they rely on paton's donations and you can donate anything from a few dollars to a hundreds if you choose to do so. Everyone brings their blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers. I like the fact that I can bring my wine or whatever it is I decide to drink. It's a really cool place for date night or either an outing for the...
Read moreLove taking the family here for concerts and/or movies!! It's also a great place to meet up with friends during the summer music concert season. Bring your lawn chairs, food and drinks and settle in for a few hours of entertainment. Family friendly for sure! No alcohol, no glass, no smoking. Pets are welcome, so expect to see some families with their dogs. We're not dog-people, but most people seem very conscientious about keeping their animals in their own space and not letting them disturb other event-goers. Be sure to bring a few dollars for donations to keep the Levitt concerts going or to purchase food from the food trucks nearby. A couple of good hamburger joints and taco restaurants are also in walking distance...
