When I searched for a replacement key fob for my older Buick I mostly found mobile lock out services, but I also found that R.W. Shattuck on Mill St. in Arlington offered automotive keys and I decided to give them a try. Sure enough, along with the usual array of blank keys they have an extensive assortment of replacement automotive key fobs and they had one for my Buick. In addition, they have an excellent technician, Shawn, who did a great job. He took a look at my old key fob first, even though it was cracked and no longer worked reliably. He told me that he might be able to reuse the old circuit board. But in my case the solder that held the battery to the circuit board had broken and I asked him if he could give me a new key fob and board. He took the time to answer my questions and explained that depending on the car model, key systems may be able to accept only a certain number of key fob connections. They may require additional programming to add a replacement key, depending on how often keys had been replaced. After adding my new key fob, he took the time to test it to make sure that it would work reliably for me. I was very impressed with Shawn's hands-on knowledge. Shawn and the whole crew at R.W. Shattuck were professional, friendly and helpful. I think you'll be pleased too if you shop there for any of your hardware needs, even...
Read moreI've gone to Shattuck’s for decades. They have an excellent selection of hardware and this paired with the polite and helpful staff make it a resource I have used often. However, I was disturbed at what I found there today. The aisles of this store are thin and there were many patrons standing in line. It was impossible to maintain 6 feet distance as people were moving back and forth to the back of the store using the same aisle that all the people who are waiting in line for the register were standing. I stood in the line masked and awaiting my turn at the register. When I got the register, I was informed by the clerk that the number I was told to write down on the identifying the bolts I was purchasing would not give her the price as I was told by another clerk. She directed me to return to the back of the store to seek the price back down through all the people waiting for the register and other people. I was not pleased. Once I reached the back of the store, I abandoned the bolts I had picked out and exited the store as I would not risk my health again standing though that line once again. This old building does not allow for safe distancing between people. I won’t return to this store until a vaccine is available or the risk of...
Read moreI keep coming back to this place over and over, even though I've moved further out, and I've never been disappointed. #1 reason is they stock so many different pieces of individual hardware, it's unbelievable. Need a couple of metric, socket head bolts in stainless steel? 99% chance they have it, at a reasonable price. Tap splices? Fuses? Latches? All kinds of weird brackets and mounts? Yes, yes, yes! It's like a local version of McMaster Carr! They also have Benjamin Moore paint, can rescreen doors and windows, and can even do minor labor for you. #2 reason - just ask a question. There's always someone around, they always know where to find things, and can always offer advice. Try getting that at one of the big box stores, if you can even find...
