TL/DR; Linh Nguyen/ABD designed/printed/cast all three of our rings together once and forever, delivered a beautiful high quality engagement ring, made my wedding ring 70% heavier than designed, and charged me an additional $5000 for her overweight mistake. She choose profit over perfection. I found another jeweler to correct the mistake, remove 10g and learned the importance of a firm-fixed-price contract.
âIt takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to destroy itâ. -Warren Buffett
I went to Linh Nguyen and American Blue Diamonds for a custom designed custom cast high quality 90% Platinum 10% Iridium alloy superior in density and melting point to common, cheaper, cobalt-alloyed â950â platinum. I sourced a perfectly grown medium blue Chatham sapphire and Linh Nguyen selected a wonderful pair of side set trillion diamonds. Huy Nguyen is exceptionally skilled ring designer who transformed our vision into reality by casting all three of our rings together once and forever.
My lovesâ engagement ring and wedding band were within 20% of quote, but slightly larger for polishing tolerance. âSomehowâ my ring was 70% heavier than quoted, 1.3mm thicker than quoted/requested. It was 3.9mm thick, not 2.6mm thick. It was 6.25mm wide, not 6.0mm wide. The 3D printer created them at the same time as instructed, but not as I was quoted. She requested $5000 more for the extra material/margin/time/labor in the overweight rings. I offered to pay for only the material cost at cost. We could not find a win-win business resolution for the mistake, Linh would not take responsibility, would not deliver quoted dimensions, and she chose to force additional profit from her mistake. She chose quality for the engagement ring, and extra profit from my simple round wedding ring. I felt sad, my love felt sad, and I knew another jeweler could correct these mistakes.
I made the mistake of not co-signing a firm-fixed-price clause for the quoted rings. I made the mistake of not double-checking after a professional by using my own calliper to measure the millimeters of the 3D printed rings before casting. I admit my mistakes. I payed her the additional $5000 she requested and took the overweight ring to a different jeweler with a lathe to remove about 10g / 1.2mm from the outside of my ring and slim it to 6.00mm.
If I did this again, I would still choose to cast 3 rings together once and forever with the highest quality 90%Pt 10%Ir, but I would find a new jeweler who also has an Indutherm inert vacuum induction furnace casting machine, a Digitalwax 3D printer, a skilled gem CAD artist, and would seal the deal with a firm fixed price...
Read moreDont be fooled by the fake reivews. They are written by the owner. Check the spelling, and notice that each one clearly has the owners name. The owner is rude, pushy and gets mad if you dont want to spend 10,000 on a diamond.
The place is a total rip off. We had been looking a an engagement ring for a couple of months and stopped in this place because we live nearby. It was awful. First, there was a baby crawling around on the floor and had sick on the carpet. Second, the entire place smelled like dead cat. I am not kidding! Third, the owner was very , very pushy , rude and kept trying to steer me toward certain rings She got irritated when I didnt like them and wanted to try on more. This is a huge decision for me and I'm sorry if I need to try on more than 3 rings styles to see what I like! She showed us incredibly overpriced diamonds, like a 1 carat M, I1 for 13k. Ridiculous. She wont even let you wander around and look, its "sit down. you sit down."
We made the mistake of coming back because we saw a ring we liked on the ad outside the store. I asked to see it and then asked some questions about size and color because we were considering a custom ring. She was so pushy my boyfriend got mad and was ready to leave, but then she actually told us that since we are just looking, and probably wont buy a diamond from her, " I dont have time for that". RUDE RUDE RUDE. She not only lost a customer she lost referrals. HORRIBLE. I will never go back and will tell everyone I know not to go there. Unbelievable!
Go to Bluenile and compare the prices. We found our band at americus diamonds. It had a good price but we got the center stone from bluenile and had them set it. At Americus they will show you a hundred rings and they are very patient and not pushy at all. Very professional. I think they realize its a huge purchase and not one made lightly, and I...
Read moreI was not looking forward to the process of getting an appraisal while simultaneously working with a jeweler for the first time. I wish everyone could see the look on my face walking into the store as opposed to how I looked when I walked out. I was relaxed and wearing a big smile on my face as I had just found my new jeweler! Linh took excellent care of me from beginning to end! To be honest, I was so surprised with the quality of customer service I received. I was trying to play it "cool" and kept my composure, but truly, I just wanted to give her a big hug and say "THANK YOU....THIS IS WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE LOOKS LIKE!" Linh took her time explaining the system used to evaluate each diamond and the ring overall. She did this in language I could understand! All of my questions were answered and my ring was returned looking absolutely stunning. Linh cleaned/polished the ring---added bonus! I brought the ring inside a little box that wasn't meant to hold rings. I left with a new black jewelry box to properly protect my ring. This is exactly what going above and beyond means & taking that added step that sets you aside from your competition! One last thing...Linh is a certified Gemologist with a plethora of degrees/certificates. After I left the store I looked up her website and learned how incredibly educated & talented she is---her story is truly an inspiration to all of us women in the...
