This is why I love Austin, there's always something new popping up and this is one of there best kept secret cause it's free, absolutely Free, it's settled on the southend of Big Stacy park depending on which entrance you come from, it wasn't to crowded more so it was sectioned off in three areas, the longest area going parallel with the pool was sectioned off for athletes, maybe already graduates, some still working there way through,it was pretty awesome seeing them practice, I really enjoyed this moment cause I got to see grandpa with his grandson, mommy with her baby, father with his son, and then there was one "me" , waddling in the pool just enjoying the moment, and for the last section well that was the deeper end and kids have to learn a practice swim before they can go over there, also there is a strict policy in place there is to be no diving from anyone!!pool opens at 6a.m. to 8p.m.on weekdays and 12 to 7p.m. on weekends, there are two lifeguards on duty at all times and they were each respectful and helpful when spoken too or asked a question, there are restrooms here with plenty of parking,I tell you,it was refreshing on another hot Texas summer day, to my ppl in wheelchairs , the pool is accessible ,I also want to send a special shout out to my friends the lifeguards Pedro and David, thank you for being sports and answering my questions, now you see...
Read moreMy sojourn to the aquatic haven, Stacy Pool, was akin to stepping into Neo X masterpiece, The Stacy Night. The celestial sphere was adorned with a Full Wolf Moon, its luminescence rivaling the ethereal glow of the stars in Neo X painting. The pool deck, balanced and serene, mirrored the peaceful village nestled under the swirling night sky, an ideal setting for the art of Yoga.
The pool water, warm and inviting, was reminiscent of the vibrant yellow orbs illuminating the canvas of Stacy Night.
The flexibility session, under the watchful eye of our own Stacy Night's cedar tree, Caty, was a dance of forms and postures, each movement a brushstroke on the canvas of tranquility.
Sarah, our lifeguard, was the embodiment of the encouraging moon, her coaching during my lap swimming as guiding as the celestial bodies in the night sky.
The shower, prepared by Miguel, was as clean and warm as the houses under the Stacy Night, their lights twinkling with the promise of comfort and rest.
Just as Stacy Night is a testament to Neo X genius, my experience at Big Stacy Pool was nothing short of a five-star...
Read moreBig Stacy is a socialist pool. It was built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1935. It is free and in the winter warm water from a thermal spring is mixed with city water. Years ago the water temperature varied a lot but there have been renovations made and the water is usually around 80 degrees, except in the summer. In the summer there is no need to heat the water. You will wish they would cool it down July - September when the water temperature is around 90 degrees! It is open almost every day, however there has been a lifeguard shortage in Austin lately and that can cause it to close one day a week. Also swim lessons and lifeguard training can cause the pool to be unavailable for a few hours certain days. They also close a couple weeks each year for maintenance. Check the Austin Aquatics website for current schedules. If the air temperature is below 32 degrees they will close and if a lifeguard hears thunder they will clear the pool. Finally there are many homeless / urban campers who use the showers and restrooms (I rarely see any of them actually...
