I visited 2/20/23. I walked in and grabbed a cart on the right. On the way past the register area, I warmly greeted the woman behind the counter but she said an annoyed and short hi back and went back to what she was doing that was more important I guess. Didn’t ask if I was looking for anything in particular or anything and definitely didn’t make me feel welcomed into the store. I found what I needed on my own and went to the register. I tried once again to be warm and friendly with her, striking up a small talk conversation about the author I was buying books from as there has been a lot of controversy lately with his books being rewritten and changed (Roald Dahl) but she wasn’t interested and said nothing back during our transaction. I could literally feel she didn’t want me to be there and that sucks as a customer and as someone who lives only 2 miles away. I will make the trip further and go to the north side locations. Customer service is number one for me when we are living in a world where you can order just about anything you want online and for most things it’s cheaper even than used bookstores pricing. I hope whatever she had going on in her life that she was projecting onto me with her poor attitude gets resolved so that others who visit the store don’t have to feel like a nuisance and bother for even being there. People shouldn’t work front of the house positions if they don’t like interacting with the customers, especially in...
Read moreHPB has the most disrespectful and insensitive employees I have ever dealt with. This store will not be getting business. I walked into the store, barely in the door and the clerk spoke to me in the rudest manner. Demanding that I must wear a mask to shop in the store. I told her that I have difficulty breathing with a mask on and I’m experiencing morning sickness with early pregnancy. She said it didn’t matter and that I had to wear a mask. I said ok and put one on. I was in an alcove by myself and another clerk came up and told me I had to keep the mask over my nose and mouth the entire time in the store. I told her the same thing. Again, it didn’t matter she said the mask had to be over both to be in the store. Before deciding to leave, an elderly customer walked in without a mask. The clerk behind the counter was disrespectfully speaking to the elderly woman demanding her to put on a mask. The elderly woman stood her ground and walked out.
I do not have a problem with the mask requirement, per say. I have a problem with the manner, tone, and attitudes that the clerks had towards me and the elderly woman. If you have lost your humanity and compassion for others during this global pandemic, you’ve lost...
Read moreSelection is "okay". Pricing is hilarious considering what they offer for the amount of brand new books you bring in then try and charge other people but I understand a business has a business to maintain. I'm guessing they don't get much business or they're broke or they're just the type of people that like taking all your books and handing you back crumbs. Wouldn't suggest selling any books here unless you are just looking to donate. Brought in a tote full of expensive books, brand new basically. Like 25-30 books. Ranging from 15-40 bucks each. Ended up getting 14 bucks for them and before I walked out or even cashing in the receipt for the offer I asked if I could just get my books back and the lady told me "no because she had already put the ones she didn't want in a recycle bin", which was literally right after she handed me the offer receipt. So I'm guessing she put them in the bin before I was even handed the receipt assuming I was going to take the offer. Offered to get them out myself she said no said it's a done deal. I won't be going back to this place for books and have learned to just sell any books I no longer read on eBay. Thanks for the lesson I...
