This is one of those liberal complaints youâre warned about. Or maybe a complaint that seems too privileged or nit-picky. Idk. Itâs hard to make a well-intended stance about a corporate grocery store that wonât make someone go, âThen stop shopping there if you donât like it.â
You see, I donât NEED fried chicken. I donât NEED a grocery deli. In fact, my day consists of coffee that I donât need. Water I couldâve waited for. Bathroom breaks that couldâve been shorter. But ultimately, this detracts from what you see in the picture, which is a single piece of chicken in a plastic container. Near it, two more plastic containers sit unopened, each the same size, but with individual pieces of fried chicken within.
Whatâs my point? Corporate grocery stores waste so much, yet complain about razor thin margins. Now I know plastic containers are cheap. Buy in bulk and the cost is negligible. Itâs how they keep up with the health codes, the demand, the margins. So here I am with $7 worth of empty calories in about 15¢ worth of plastic and paper, not counting the amount of TIME it took my friend behind the counter to package and deliver with an apology on his face when I realized my lunch would come in a trilogy, the majority of which is actual garbage (which so happens to be my actual review of the Hobbit movies too).
A question I will never get an answer to, like when Walgreens refused to let me use their bathroom in an emergency after 9pm, is why? Why REALLY? Why so much plastic? Should I have consumed more in order to get my âless plasticâ discount? Is the consumer responsible for aggressive policies that donât take into account waste? Or eff my feelings or whatever?
One star for making me think about the burning earth and the plastic that will outlive me, and that I now have to find a way to reuse. An additional star for having some new containers, even if I...
Read moreI've been on the hunt for disinfectant wipes for a while now and so I figured I would check out their online options. They had them listed as available so I figured I had hit the jackpot. I ordered a couple other things to make the trip worthwhile, one of them being a veggie pot pie that I can't get at home. I was notified that my order was ready for pickup 5 hours ahead of schedule so I headed over. A very pleasant young woman came out to tell me that the disinfectant wipes were not available after all (not really surprised honestly) and that the pot pies I had ordered had only one left (I had requested 4). She had taken a picture of other items available for that brand and was going to comp them for my inconvenience. I made my selection and a few minutes later she brought them out with an extra two because that's what was left so she figured she would throw them in. She went above and beyond to make up for the items they didn't have available and I truly...
Read moreThe store is great It's just the Starbucks that is located in the store the manager Carol has very very bad customer service. When it comes to our team members ordering drinks for our managers at the Highlands it seems like she can not make or fulfill that order. We follow what she tells us to call in advance and then she says she cannot do it which is no more than five drinks but when a walk in comes in an order six coffees she has the best attitude and service she gives them but for some reason she's always having an attitude with any of our employees that purchase coffee or drinks. This has been going on and on since the winter since last year summer and now we're entering a new summer season and I think we might just be taking that extra ride and on high prices in gas to travel to the Petoskey other area Starbucks just to get a great service. It's so sad how customers have to be turned away from...
