If you’ve never had Indian food but are curious… you need to eat here
Or even if you haven’t and you also don’t think you’ll like it… you need to eat here
If you’re a vegetarian or a carnivore… you need to eat here.
If you’re tired of the same old “northern” fair (as good as fish Fridays are) and are looking for some grub that is equal parts: unusual at first bite and then quickly a new addiction…
And has…
Exotic, tasty, spicy and savory flavors, (and you already have the palette for authentic Italian and/or Mexican, notice I said AUTHENTIC, not Taco Bell)…Then you guessed it…
You need to eat here!
This place is THE place to go (not just for excellently prepared Indian food), but on its own merits stands alone for just well prepared food in general, in how good everything tastes and the generous portions you’re given.
If you have never had Indian food here are my suggestions. You can’t go wrong.
Chicken Tandoori and get it spicy! If you like hot wings and spicy fajitas? This is your dish. You wild have a hard time not thinking it’s a hot wing flavor at wings n things. But it’s 10x better, the sauce is baked in and you get 6 large portions. 4 thighs and two legs! That’s way more meat than you get on boneless wings.
Goan Curry with chicken or lamb (yes. Lamb). Absolutely delicious and reminds me of a cross between a savory spaghetti sauce
If you’re a baby when it comes to Indian food, and only want to “dip your toe into the pool” to see if you like it… well, then Tikka masala (you could put this on spaghetti and you’d swear an Italian grandma made it). Basically Indian food is going to be your new Mexican / Italian hybrid flavor. You won’t look back Or… you can play it safe with Butter chicken. It’s fabulous, just not adventurous… Nuff said…
Oh and what should order a lot of???
NAAN, NAAN, NAAN What is Naan? Think of the texture of a warm chalupa wrap-like tortilla thing from Taco Bell, now make that 1000x better, and add cheese inside of it, with butter, garlic and seasoning on it. Yeah… oh yeah.
You dip this celestial crafted bread into the sauce of your entree, or you can make it into a bastardized taco. No one will shame you because it tastes so darn good, they understand…
I recommend the bread basket of naan if there’s 2 or more people. It comes with 16 pieces (I think they said?) and trust me you can just about eat them all yourself. They’re warm, soft, toasty, and savory and you’re going to want more…
The one and only draw back is that this place (the building itself) is very unassuming looking inside, and I would venture to say a bit outdated and drab looking. It’s in a strip mall but there’s plenty of parking. That doesn’t mean anything bad per se’ because it’s definitely clean and the staff is very attentive, and very friendly. I would just say that it’s a little dated looking. But here’s the thing… that’s actually why it’s such a gem. I think it might be a sign that whoever is in the kitchen is concentrating on exactly what is important, and that’s the food.
Which is why we keep making the trip back.
So, if you live anywhere near Petoskey, MI or if you live an hour away as we do… then
All together now… You need...
Read moreDon't stop, keep going. We had a horrible experience. My wife and I were kindly greeted at the door and was escorted to our seats. The guy left and we had no idea what to do. He later came back and said it was buffet only. Which we weren't expecting but was okay with.
We got up and got our food, then sat back down. The food was lukewarm at BEST and was probably sitting out longer than 30 mins. I ate my plate because I felt obligated that I put food on my plate but my wife didn't even touch hers.
We brought it up to the main guy and he went to "test the food temp." He put the thermostat in multiple dishes (cross contamination) and then finally showed us the last dish which I saw a worker a minute prior just add new hot food.
It would have been different if they told us they were bringing new food which was fresh and not sitting around.
He charged us both for the full price for the buffet which was around $25 each! I told him I was fine with mine because I did eat but my wife didn't even touch hers cause it was cold. I'm disgusted as a guest and feel like just another number. I paid for it both of us but working in customer service, he should have not charged me for at least my wife.
Horrible experience, made our anniversary trip a night to remember. That's for sure. I'll be calling my bank to fight the transaction.
Every dish was cold, the butter chicken, the rice, the lamb, it...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Aamchi Mumbai Indian Cuisine in Petoskey, MI. While the food could potentially be good, it’s not worth spending your hard-earned money here, especially considering the owner’s rudeness.
We were traveling back from Mackinaw Island and stopped by with four adults and four little kids. Upon arriving, the owner immediately told us, “I don’t have a table for you!” This was quite ridiculous, especially since there were empty tables available. When I asked if they were full or booked, he responded that they were closing in an hour and had a lot of people to feed.
It would have been nice if he had communicated that with a bit more politeness. At the very least, it would have been nice if he could have offered us the option for a to-go order. It left us feeling like our group was unwelcome, and it’s hard not to wonder if there’s a bias at play here.
When we tried to express our frustration and asked him to be more polite, he snapped back that we were “testing his patience level.” It was incredibly unprofessional and left a sour taste in our mouths.
Overall, I cannot recommend Aamchi Mumbai Indian Cuisine based on this experience. There are plenty of other restaurants that prioritize customer service and treat everyone...
