I used to go here a lot, but I had always felt like an inconvenience to the staff. They don't seem very welcoming to customers. Their selection is extremely sparse in store, but they do have a better selection of stuff on their Ebay store, which doesn't help because I don't ever shop on Ebay.
Regardless, the thing that really set me off and quit coming here is when I tried to purchase a Pete Maravich rookie card they had in store. That card is like the "Holy Grail" of cards for me, so I was extremely excited to see they finally got one in store. They had it for a price of $100. It had some condition issues, a few creases, but I figured it was the perfect card for me. I wanted to see if I could get a bit better price given the condition of the card, so I try to start haggling a bit. One of the best things about purchasing at a local card shop is haggling, shooting the stuff, etc. Anyway, I give an offer of $75 expecting them to come at me with a counter, but the guy just put the card back in the case and said, "Nah, I can't do that." My jaw dropped. He just as well told me that I'm an idiot and to leave the shop. I felt completely disrespected because he didn't think I was going to purchase the card when, in reality, I probably would have spent the $100 for it if he would have countered my offer. It's haggling 101, it's not rocket science. It's not like I offered $40 or anything. I thought $75 was a more than fair starting point, at least. It was at that point I decided they will not get another dime of my money and I haven't been back there ever since. I guess I'll have to find my Maravich somewhere else.
Now, I drive a little further down the road to the Sports Room in Beaverton. They're reasonable and I can leave there feeling good about...
Read moreHoping this reaches the professional involved in pricing, also determining reasonable and fare market values prior to payout. I have little knowledge of trading card industry, I assume that cards fluctuate daily like the stock market. I have visited this card shop around half a dozen times over the past year which I've sold a few great cards for what i felt as reasonable amount, So I grabbed 5 cards from one of the 2 shoe boxes of cards my father had collected over the years had no idea this modest collection existed. He just recently past from a short battle against bone cancer. Nevertheless while visiting my friend I mentioned one of the cards I sold. 1968 Roberto Clemente it was examined and given a number 5 from psa. Paid me $40 Which i asked if this around average, he responded right around the offer. This is when my friend stopped me there before mentioning the other 4 examined cards. My friend said here is a way to get general market sales on cards. Market Movers. Turns out the Clemente hasn't sold for any less than $79 in the past years. Most sales of this exact grader and determined number 5 is $95.00. This didn't settle right. So we continued pricing the others. 2019-2020 SGC Number 10, Labron James fireworks, fastbreak optic bubble prizm or something like that. Last sale for identical one. $110.00. I was told between $10-15. Trayce Jackson Davis purple cracked ice psa number 9 $5-10 last sale $63 Jamie Jaquez Jr blue prizm select number 9 psa $5-10 Last sale $49 Mind you there was a Walter Payton 1980s psa number 8. 2021 Bijan Robinson by storm numbered rookie SCG 10
Cut to the chase I was given ($70 total.) For those cards. I feel like they just take advantage, while basically stealing from you. (BEWARE) I am definitely contacting...
Read moreThe first younger guy at Hoody's was nice and answered my question with regards to consignment. I brought in a few top loader boxes for him to look at and give some feesback. I recently reviewed my sports card collection after many years. I had never considered selling any but out of curiosity I did some research. Turns out there's more value than I thought. My collection is based on my own perceived value of the cards not actual and I mentioned this to him. When I return and older guy was behind the counter as well. He came over and says "what are we doing here?" I responded to him with "I am curious in the value of collection and details of consignment". He looked through one box, maybe 50 cards and states "these aren't worth anything". Based on my research I knew the contrary was true. I asked questions with regards to why and he was very short and rude with his responses. Then walked away without looking any further, cards that I knew had much higher value. I stood there waiting for his bad attitude to change; he never returned so packed up and left. While waiting to talk to someone I had cards select for purchase, based on his responses there was no way I would give this place any business. Why not educate people about the value of collectibles instead of being rude? You couldn't blame his attitude on a bad day. My questions suggested there was higher value to some but not all of my collection. This guy didn't care about making any money for his business nor creating a good customer experience. 1 Star for Hoody's Collectables - this guy...
