It was this experience that prompted me to cancel my Marriott credit card and after I use up my free hotel stays I earned through my Marriott loyalty and finalize the reservations I already have booked for business purposes, I will try my darndest to avoid any and all Marriott properties moving forward.
I booked a two queen bed because it was less expensive than a king and I had to stay within my work budget… Upon arriving they would not let me have the two queen bed- because I’m one person – but that’s what I booked, it’s not up to them to dictate how much space I need or do not need.
It took so long to check in- it was incredibly frustrating, there was a lack of communication- she wouldn’t explain what the problem was but left me standing for more than a half hour, at one point I left to get my luggage parked the car and I came back and she was still scratching her head… By the time I was to my room all restaurants in the area had already closed and after a long days travel I couldn’t even get dinner.
My room stunk like cigarette smoke with hints of mildew. My bed was worn in and depressed in the middle so it was like sleeping in a hole in the bed – it was incredibly uncomfortable. It caused me severe back pain my entire trip.
Although in my customer preferences on my account I requested an upper level room with feather pillows as the cotton pillows are too thick and give me neck aches. I was put on the lower level with thick cotton pillows. I was woken up throughout the nights to people congregating in the hallway outside my room talking loudly, people stomping on the ceiling above my head, the pillows caused me severe neck pain and the bed itself caused me severe back pain… a week of misery.
The pool and the whirlpool was closed and under construction which was never disclosed when I booked the room. I even called in advance because I had to have work meetings with my associate during my stay and they recommended I use the lobby, which also was under construction they were replacing the doors and while there were no doors on the hotel they had groundskeepers using gasoline powered lawn equipment right by the door filling the entire lobby with fumes from gasoline, which The toxic fumes made me physically ill for more than 24 hours.
The phone in my room had some kind of weird disk sticking out of it that was a flashlight, it lit up the entire room, the door had an inch and a half gap that let light in hallway light into the room illuminating the entire room at night and letting noise in. Although I signed up for no housekeeping service for extra points, housekeeping came every day. Even when I called the front desk to remind them that I did not want the service, housekeeping still came. When I would work in the courtyard to avoid all the noise in the lobby because in addition to the construction they decided to turn the music up so loud that my associate and I couldn’t have a conversation in the lobby… I left my sliding door open To try to air out the cigarette smell in my room… Housekeeping came in and closed my door.
I ended up switching pillows trying to sleep on different sides of the bed to attempt finding one comfortable spot that wasn’t lumpy or sunken in- when I realized the pillow stunk like someone’s filthy dirty head… The pillow had not been cleaned. When I told the hotel they argued with me and insisting it was clean. I had never even used that pillow, I wash my hair every single day and because I was cold while I was there, I slept with my hoodie on and my hood on my head.
When I checked out they raised the rates without my consent, charging more for the king size room… Remember the double queen I booked was less expensive. they ended up adjusting the price, but told me if I had a problem call Marriott corporate. I called Marriott corporate, and it turns out the hotel lied to Marriott corporate telling them they gave me a free night stay, even though the truth is they adjusted the rate because they tried to overcharge me. Gross hotel, overpriced...
Read moreWe checked into this hotel on March 22nd 2019 to stay for the weekend as my daughter had a dance competition. There was a large group of us that stayed at this hotel and after speaking with other parents, I don’t think any of us plan to return. The day prior to check in I called the number listed online to make sure the hotel accepts cash. My husband and I like to travel with cash so we only take what we need and leave the rest at home. I understand some hotels do not accept cash so I called prior to our stay. I was told “absolutely they accept cash payment”. Upon check in the blonde girl working the check in desk on the right informed me that she needed a card to card $260.00 to. I told her I had called prior to only bringing cash to make sure it wouldn’t be an issue and was told it would be fine. She then told me “yes you can pay with cash at check out but we still need a card to charge $260.00 to right now”. I explained that when we travel we like to only use cash we we did not bring any other money and I was really upset because we were from out of town and I couldn’t understand why they would say I could pay with cash but never mention I had to bring a card or I could not stay at the hotel. She then proceeded to tell me that she would be more than happy to cancel my families reservation so we can go to a different hotel instead. As I am standing there almost in tears, cash in hand, a 7 year old, 6 year old and 1 year old all crying and exhausted from our 7 hour drive. Not familiar with the area or where a different hotel would be. Luckily my husband had his business card on him and we ended up using that to check in (most people don’t have this and idk what we would have done if we didn’t). After gaining access to our room we quickly realized there was crumbs all over the floor and the room smelled. I was already overwhelmed with everything and tried not to complain. Later that evening we went to get ice, there was little black hairs in the bottom of our ice bucket and no bags to use. So disgusting!!! My husband went down and talked to the front desk about this, same blonde lady from check in. Needless to say she did not appologize or seem concerned, she just turned around and grabbed my husband a bag and did not say a word. Hours after this we took our kids swimming at the pool with the whole dance team, about 20 kids. The pool was so cloudy and yellow you couldn’t even see the bottom! Will never...
Read moreNot impressed with this Courtyard location. I booked a King Suite. Check In shows on their website as 3pm. We arrived at 3:25pm to find that all 3 suites hadn't been cleaned yet. We had a wedding to attend down the street and didn't have an hour to wait. They let us use a standard room and said when we came back our room would be ready. Which was nice, however, very inconvenient when you had an 11month old and you've just driven for a few hours...
We came back around 7:30pm and I had to explain to the front desk our situation because apparently the guy never noted the account. I eventually got the keys to the suite and got our stuff moved from the old room to the new. Surprisingly the suite bathroom is considerably smaller than the standard rooms bathroom. And we were welcomed by no less than 10 small spiders crawling all over the bathroom walls. My husband killed them all. There's no fan, so after you take a shower, it's humid and appears that mold is growing on the walls.
Once we dealt with the bathroom situation we find that the bed is not the King size we originally booked for $194. It appears to be a queen but made for a short person, such as myself at 5'3. My husband is 6'1 and his feet hung well off the end of the bed. Not only that, it appears that they charged my card for more than what my total reservation should've been. But maybe the extra $25 was just a hold? I will see at time of check out.
It's now 2:18 and I still haven't been able to sleep. Bed is hard and pillows are garbage. Also, the number of inconsiderate guests is astonishing. With their loud yammering down the halls, outside, and door slamming. We are in room 162 and apparently an elephant is walking around in the room above us all night long. I can't blame the hotel for that of course and don't.
But I'm extremely disappointed in the level of service and cleanliness that I've typically experienced at other Courtyard Marriotts. I wouldn't ever stay here again or...
