I usually really like small used bookstores. You can usually find older books for good deals and they tend to have a better selection for certain genres than places like goodwill. Sadly, this isnt the case here (at least not for me). The price model of half off of cover price works for some books but not all. A lot of the paperbacks are quite beat up and the pricing just doesnt work. As far as selection goes, it's absolutely great if you love trashy romance novels. They also have a "suspense" section that seems to encompass all their mysteries, suspense, thriller and well, everything else. They have a small western section, a small science fiction section, some audiobooks, a shelf of classic lit and a little nook of kids books. I was really disappointed to not find a horror section at all. Even the the horror in the "suspense" section was limited to Stephen King, Koontz and some VC Andrews. All of my gripes are easily overlooked if not for one, absolutely disgusting, vile, unforgivable practice of this bookstore. THEY STAMP EVERY BOOK! That's right. Every book has been permanently defaced by an ink stamp of "Jans". For shame. For anyone who values books and especially from a collector standpoint, this is atrocious and is the main reason for my 2...
Read moreOutstanding Little Book Shop! *Shop is navigable if you're on foot, wheels or cane you can still get around and staff is always the definition of helpful. *Accessible via foot, car, bike, public transit, unicorn and dragon. *Their covid precautions are above and beyond what is required (and have been this whole time, super cooty conscientious). *Good selection of books, a little bit of everything, new, used, common popular and more obscure. If they don't have what you want they can order it in - imagine getting a new book without having to go thru the folks that rhyme with bananazon. Also - and this is a great bonus, this place is very community oriented; always supporting other local businesses big and small, hosting author events, bringing in indie books, kissing babies and petting puppies. They also have a chandelier; if that doesn't say "buy my books and take instagramable selfies I dunno what does!" I thought I'd posted a review years ago but when I came to update with new photos it is not to be found - so hear my words,...
Read moreJan's in Beaverton is the BEST used bookstore in Oregon. I was visiting from Los Angeles by way of Las Vegas and found this store based on a two star review. Not so sure why it was a two star review since it was such a good review and told me just what I needed to know, which is that Jan's has all the romance novels I could ever want! It also has a wide selection of suspense, mystery, Fantasy, and Young Adult used books at half price. Such a great deal on used books to be found at Jan's book in Beaverton. I was impressed with the staff and loved how cute the space was. Easy parking and handicap accessible! My favorite part was that I left car in the parking lot, walked across the street and grabbed the most amazing lunch and coffee because everything is super close as Jan's used bookstore is located in the heart of...
