I've been a frequent customer here for years, but today will be my last visit until the woman working tonight is no longer employed. Here’s what happened:
I walked in around 8 p.m. to the familiar "ding ding" of the electronic bell. I looked over the menu and waited patiently for about three minutes. There was only one other customer inside, seated near the entrance. Even she seemed surprised no one was at the counter—she looked around as if trying to signal someone in the back on my behalf.
After waiting, I politely but firmly said, “Hello? Anyone here?” A woman, possibly Hispanic, finally rushed out with a frustrated look on her face and snapped, “I’ll be right with you!” Her attitude was unnecessarily aggressive, and it felt like whatever personal frustration she was carrying spilled out onto me.
Trying to deescalate, I calmly asked, “Is everything okay? Wtf? Are you having a bad day?” That only made things worse, she lashed out with even more attitude and stormed back to the kitchen, loudly venting to another employee.
Thankfully, another worker also possible Hispanic and very kind, came out and handled the situation professionally, salvaging what was left of the experience.
Still, I won’t be coming back as long as the first woman...
Read moreThis used to be my fav donut place in the PDX area. But now they're no longer 24 hrs.
Idk when this started. I've been coming here over 10 years. I thought it was just a fluke the past few times I trekked out here (I live all the way in St John's now). But apparently they actually changed their ours (according to their Google info hours). I don't see hours posted on the actual building anywhere.
It's like 3am atm. The back wall is covered in racks of donuts and I see ppl working inside (anytime I've come by and it's been locked, this has been the scene: donuts, lights, people inside, but closed!) Ugh.
2 other cars besides me have pulled up trying to get donuts, in the like 10 mins or so I've been sitting here. Disappointing. Smh.
I have PTSD from a car wreck and only feel comfortable driving late @ night (wee hours like this). So I guess I'm just SOL now.
Like I said, pretty disappointing after I've been coming here over 10 years.
Anybody know why this change?
I've been by at 12am or 2am or 3am or 4am. Always the same scene. So they're never actually closed. Just "closed" (aka locked up). What gives? Oh well...
3 stars it is. It was a nice run. Great donuts, plenty of variety. IF you get here during their new normal business...
Read moreCrazy delicious, and I definitely understand why it's known as one of the best in town. The kid at the front was very helpful and patient when I was deciding what to get. Went with the sesame, pumpkin spice, lemon poppy seed, and buttermilk bar. The sesame donut looks weird, but is MARVELOUS. Perfect mix of crunchy, soft, savory, and sweet. The icing they use is also not too drippy and not too dry--they've found a perfect balance. I was literally scraping icing bits out of my paper bag, like an animal. It's GOOD.
I guess this place is a long time fixture because the kid told me his mom had actually worked there as well, 20 years prior. It's always cool to go somewhere with HISTORY! The seating is cute, and I saw fresh flowers on a couple tables. They also have adorable tiny donuts in different colors for 75¢. Perfect for little kids who might not finish an entire full size donut or anyone who enjoys tiny treats.
He did forget to pack my pumpkin spice donut, but it was probably my fault for being too conversational and not checking my bag before I had to run out. Regardless, I will go back, and I highly recommend...
