I went in today because there was a hold on two student loan checks I had deposited through mobile banking and a nice person on the customer service line told me that if I brought in my physical check, they could make an exception on the hold since I needed the reimbursement.
The person that helped me at the desk took my physical checks to a manager and deliberated for a long time. I could hear them talking about my negative bank account balance, (which is the only point anyone would ask for an exception), and when the man came back he got very, very cold with me and said they couldn't allow an exception because it was a "Company Check". It isn't, It's a federal student loan check from a Washington State college. He said I would have to wait the full time for the hold to clear (next monday) because they can't verify a "company check" (what a giant load of bull). His demeanor was extremely cold and dismissive and he wouldn't answer why a teller can cash a check immediately, but they can't "verify" a physical, printed check from a trusted institution.
I called the customer service line back and another very nice person helped me and told me that the hold would release tomorrow and she had never heard of the "policy" about company checks before.
It really felt like this was just something they say to poor people they don't trust. I work full time, go to school, and have to pay for daycare and after school for 2 kids, and yet they refused to work with me, or even be remotely kind because my bank account was in the negative (because of the crazy long hold on the checks). Went to the branch to add the name on my mom’s account, takes 4 months to show on the estatement, on the 5th month, finally show, with my WRONG LAST NAME on. Amazing, not sure how can they make it wrong. And I need those money from my account to apply a home loan, call the branch, they’re not even willing to talk to me on the phone to apology their error. Long story short we had drivin all the way from Yakima to the nearest location and I wished we never went here. It was a time sensitive situation that now we have to figure out and ruined the whole deal. Beyond frustrated!!
