The short: Great comic shop with a wide selection of trade paperbacks.
The long: 3 years ago my wife and I stopped by while killing time before a flight back to the east coast. At the time we had little to no interest in comics. Ilan, the owner, struck up a conversation about what types of stories we are interested in. He recommended several trade paperback issues that we completely fell in love with (Saga, Low, etc.) His passion was contagious. We used to think that comics were cliché super hero stories about perfect people fighting unending villains. Mighty Moose Comics showed us that comics are just another form of storytelling that can be just as involved and wondrous as our favorite movies and novels.
It's now been 3 years since that visit and my wife and I now have a passion for comics. We have visited comic book shops in Idaho, Vermont, New York, Boston, and Montreal. All shops seem to be slightly different. But we still haven't found one that we like better than Mighty Moose. The store is a good size with a great selection. But the best advantage Mighty Moose has is passionate people. Both the owner and one other employee we met can offer great recommendations. Which is why on our recent trip to Seattle we made a point to stop by...
Read moreI visited this comic book store hoping to find a graphic novel and to enjoy browsing the shelves. However, the interaction of the two employees behind the counter ruined my experience. The older person was constantly berating the younger one in a loud and harsh tone. It was very uncomfortable and distracting to witness this kind of behavior. I felt sorry for the younger employee and wondered why the older one was so rude.
The store itself had a decent selection of comics and merchandise, but I couldn’t enjoy it because of the negative atmosphere. I left without buying anything and decided not to come back. I think the store owner should address this issue and train their staff to be more respectful and professional.
EDIT: I have seen the response here and am disappointed to hear it was the owner with this behavior. There are many other comic book store options in the area and sadly sometimes you only get 1 chance to make a good impression. I will not be returning because I do not ever want the tone I heard in the store directed at me. It had something to do with what product was being allocated where and to...
Read moreLeaving this review as 3 stars to be more of a PSA: if you are looking to buy Pokemon TCG sealed product, I highly recommend NOT buying here.
I have visited several times and prices for packs/bundles/etc. across the board are EXTREMELY overpriced. What pushed me over the edge to post this review is that I noticed they recently started selling the newly released Blooming Waters collection. I understand that the product is very high in demand, but how on earth is it acceptable to sell it at $160 which is 2-3x over MSRP?! It is even way over the secondhand market price right now as of early February (~$120-130).
I saw the previous poor review regarding the pricing; I hope this helps explain the displeasure from collectors who just want to be able to buy product at reasonable prices, and it would be great to support local businesses at the same time, but it really cannot be justified at these price points. The Pokemon market is not in a good place right now with the extreme demand/supply disparity and scalpers taking advantage of it, and it is disappointing to see a local business partake in...
