My son was invited to a birthday party to Great Day Skate Place. With my son's needs he was unable to skate as they do not choose to purchase skating supports. This was very disappointing as my son kept stating he likes the other place better because he could skate there. When speaking to staff it was mentioned it was due to a step down onto the floor...which everyone has to do in skates. An excuse that could be remedied or agued if you really wanted to be sure to include all parts of the community.
The effect is greater than just not being included in a birthday activity, it caused the family and other participants to feel bad and took away from the birthday celebration. It also is one of the reasons children with disabilities get left out from being invited to birthday events, because it is perceived they cannot participate, and if the business owners in the area don't choose to include, then no one else can either. The ripple effect is greater than you might think.
Please take note, Autism Involves Me has a grant program for this very purpose and there may be many others that will provide monetary support for purchasing of accessible equipment.
On a positive note, my son enjoyed the games and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe staff can be rude, not very welcoming people. The guy with a long beard is alright tho, checked on me and my sister when she was having a panic attack and helped us. The owner lady is nice too. The music choices most of the time are horrible tho! Bring your headphones if you have them. No beginner friendly tools which was a real hassle at first. No age restrictions on the evening skates so there's toddlers running around at 7pm - 10pm. Real annoying when I want to skate fast, or even in general. I personally think evening skates should be 13+. Rental skates suck, caused me to fall many times due to them being wobbly or slipping out of nowehere, bring your own skates if you have them. Also, you guys seriously need some form of security. Had a run in with a (highly) potential kidnapper right outside of the building. This happened 5/11/24 ~9:40 pm. Please keep an eye on the kids if you go here. Highly suggest going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to come to this rink every weekend in High School and I came with friends now that weāre visiting home from college.Rink was clean and well lit. The staff were very unfriendly and rude to us when we came in. Worst of all, the music selection was HORRID. It was the blandest songs from the 2010s you can think of - not at all fun songs to dance to. It ruined our fun since we really couldnāt dance to anything. There was a group of people friendly with staff that continuously stomped their skates in the ground - it was cute the first couple songs, then it became increasingly annoying. Couple this with the fact that members of this group would almost collide with us constantly and we had to continuously avoid them or move to avoid collision when they would come by. Iām dissappointed itās become what it has. It used to be a fun place to bring friends and hang for hours, now I could not be...
