A Priori — Local services in Berkeley

I don't know who is working today on 3/6 at 5pm but that white woman was surely following my friend and I around. I even walked up and down the same side of the store to see if she'd follow and SHE DID. This is not a safe space for POC and/or queer individuals. I really wanted to buy that butter dish too, but I'm not supporting a business that profiles me and makes their customers feel uncomfortable. There's better business else where I promise. They may have signs outside that say they want to build community, but their actions made it obvious they do not. So unfortunate when Berkeley is full of diversity.

To the woman working, if you're reading this, do better.

UPDATE: Turns out her name was Lisa. My friend confronted her and Lisa claimed she wasn't following us, but said she always goes behind customers straightening up after them. However, I saw her mostly looking through the clothes racks that line the left side of the store. Get this, we NEVER touched the clothes racks, so she's obviously lying. My friend said she wouldn't look her in the eye when being confronted and 'apologizing' about the experience and it clearly felt disingenuous.

I stumbled upon this store by chance & I'm so glad I did! It's a really well rounded shop that has a little bit of everything. It's sooo cute and you can tell it's a small business based on the products being sold. They have great quality kitchenware and even clothing. I purchased a beautiful wooden cutting board, a Sherpa jacket on sale, some hair clips & multifunctional kitchenware and I'm so excited!

I’ve been meaning to review this business for quite awhile. A Priori is my favorite store in Berkeley! Their curated collection of home goods and apparel is eclectic and unique, but best of all, the owner and manager couldn’t be more lovely! They treat me like a friend and I can tell they work hard to create a sense of community— something that is lacking in our society today. Please support this wonderful...
