Historically mid shop with a rude owner who seemingly has a chip on his shoulder about being in his chosen profession. Brought in sealed records to sell him and he was dismissive and had an attitude about it for no real reason. Annoying, but I was grateful he didn’t randomly flip out and scream at me like I’ve overheard him to do other customers in person and on the phone over the years.
EDIT: I'm not just disgruntled that he didn't buy what I was selling.. I would've had no problem if the owner actually checked out my records and declined to purchase them. I've had success selling what I was selling in numerous local shops, but also had several normal interactions where people declined to buy anything. The actual problem was that the owner had a really horrible attitude right off the rip (he just sighed and dejectedly muttered "put them on the counter" when I walked in and said hello...) and seemed to have no curiousity about what I brought and seemed to take my offer to simply describe the items as some sort of challenge or threat because he hadn't heard of the bands (one of them a pretty popular indie post punk band). I just wanted to have a normal conversation about what titles I had and what I was thinking for wholesale and retail cost, and to give him some reference points for the actual music. I also work in a record store and expect and appreciate some kind of spiel or basic information from someone when they bring in records to sell. Disrespectful and...
Read moreWent to purchase a copy of To Pimp a Butterfly here, staff was friendly at the time, helpful and observant. Organization is a little iffy but it's not the worst I've ever seen. Got sold a record with an manufacturing error (warped 180g) and emailed the business. They seemed very understanding about it and ensured me that their records have a 30 day money back guarantee. We went to return the record and the attendant was making a fuss about our return like we were essentially robbing him of money, and complained that it was open.
Sealed records have their record stored in the paper sleeve facing upright so they do not fall out or cut the shrink wrap sealing he record. The record I got was warped and I couldn't have known otherwise without looking. He than complained that he can't make his money back because it was opened, which if he is selling a defective product he should be obligated to take it back, and just made the whole ordeal harder than it had to be. Eventually, his attitude was unbearable and we just pressed for a refund. His final retort towards my father was "I'm the one who's getting pimped around here"
We won't be coming back. UHF (Royal Oak), Found Sound (Ferndale), Hello Records (Detroit) and Dearborn Music (Dearborn) have better prices and selection. Avoid...
Read moreGreat shop has some weird quirks though. Basically every record is on "sale" having the regular price and the sale price on the LPs. I get it though makes people think there getting a better deal. As far as price though it's fair compared to other shops in the area. The shop it's self is pretty beat up but it's been there for along time. Cleaning and fixing up some stuff wouldn't hurt presentation is important. The biggest disappointment is the owner, he has one of the biggest egos I have ever seen. If there was show like Hell's kitchen but for record stores this shop would be the first stop for sure. It rubs off on some of the employees as well which is a shame. One of the first times I stopped in and mentioned it was my first time in the shop and said I usually shopped at found sound (love you found sound) the employee mentioned how dark it is in there talking down to the shop. I've found some gems here for sure but, customer service is key and that's what lacks...
