I love Chazzano, it may be the best coffee roaster I have ever had the fortune to enjoy; and their geographic bean choices and roast options are always changing to bring out the notes the roaster is seeking. Chazzano coffee and their beans are a special treat I always make time to enjoy when my work takes me out to the Hazel Park/Warren area. Pre-COVID-pandemic it was really nice to sit in the cozy environment and chat with the staff and other customers while sipping some well brewed and expertly roasted coffee; or just read a book during particularly busy times. The staff treat all people like humans regardless of appearance or apperant wealth, that is something I really appreciate about Chazzano. During the COVID pandemic, you just pull into their parking lot, use the QR code on the outside of their door to get their latest offerings on your phone [website], and then call and and make your order with a credit card over the phone; the barista will place your beans and/or coffee on the table that is just outside of the door. I always get a pound of beans when I am at Chazzano, the roasters are very good at making bright fruity roasts, which are notes I tend to lean toward, but they also bring out chocolate notes or nut notes for their darker roasts if that is your bag. Great place, don't miss Chazzano if you seek a truly exceptional coffee; no fake flavors, everything is...
Read moreI am moving to the Berkeley area from Arizona and I made it a point to visit coffee shops and grocery stores on my latest trip. I have been accused of being a coffee snob in the past and as much as I do not find delight with the word snob I can’t deny the sentiment behind the accusation. When I heard that Chazzano did not offer flavored syrups at their shop I was immediately intrigued and it was the first coffee house I visited. I would characterize this place as a roaster that happens to serve coffee. Anyone complaining about the hours and seating don’t appreciate this place for what it is - a coffee snob’s dream. Chazzano had at least 40 different roasts and the staff had the knowledge and experience to not only describe but nerd out with me about each one. To say the least I bought a pound to take back to AZ to try out in my home espresso maker but more importantly I found my coffee shop. And it is worth mentioning that they deliver within 30 min. I’d like to also thank Abbey my barista for taking the time to nerd out with me a little and talking to me about the neighborhood. I look forward to my return to Berkeley and...
Read moreExcellent service, great selection of coffee, establishment does not serve or allow food. I have made the rounds to the few roasters in the metro area, this place is by far the best. There is not the traditional pretentious feel that comes from upscale coffee shops. Sitting at the coffee bar talking with my barista about flavors and brewing methods was actually enjoyable.
The best part: unlike other places, the people that work here actually love coffee and enjoy talking about it with you. I went through a french press and a few espresso shots based off my barista's favorites before leaving with a half pound of beans and a strong desire to return.
I can say that this is a place that is not pure about there methods about brewing coffee. That however doesn't really hurt my feelings towards them, because it makes the whole situation less intimidating. Also, I was assured that all beans are rotated on a two-three week basis, therefore everything is in its peak freshness. Off peak beans are donated.
I strongly recommend giving this place a try, you won't be...
