You like tacos? Been to say, Tienda Mexicana? Carnival Market in Pontiac? Got your favorite hole in the wall in southwest Detroit?
Add Casa Amado to your list of must-visits. I had the birria tacos. These are a special - not available every weekend. 3 for $13; a bit more expensive because of the accompanying consomme dipping sauce. Think of it as a Mexican version of a French dip. These were great. Not sure I've seen this much char on my tortillas before. Which, excellent.
Wife had a steak quesadilla. The quality of the meat is a cut above your average Am-Mex place. She would definitely order this again.
Had chips & guac too. Guac is fine. Another reviewer claimed the chips were greasy. Yeah, no. They are not greasy. And they're not made from the same tortillas used for the tacos. Attention to detail like this is what you expect from a proprietor who once worked at the famed Topolobampo. The chips are good and sneaky addictive.
Pro tip: you're gonna run out of guac before chips. If you got the birria, crumble up the remaining chips and dump them in the dipping sauce after you're done with the tacos. Then drink the remaining consomme. You will thank me later.
Couple small negatives: the ordering process is (as of 2022/6/25).. a little clunky right now. You order at the counter when you walk in then go upstairs and they bring the food to you. If the place is even a little busy this is awkward. They're working it out.
Also, the dipping sauce was served in a small styrofoam cup. Dipping the taco in it was awkward.
Will be back soon to try other menu items. Like the other tacos and the pops.
If you think Mexican food is what you get at places like Azteca (please try the Chile Colorado) or El Patio, spend a dollar or two more and come to Amado. Let this place elevate your conception of...
Read moreMy expectations were high considering all the great reviews. Let’s start with two of the most important items, chips and salsa. The salsa was like water and would not coat the chip. Served in a 2 ounce soufflé, hardly enough! Chips were hard as rocks! Almost like the chip was a blend corn and flour mix. My thought is you would be better served using the same tortilla chip from the taco. Try not to cut the tortilla in so many small pieces. The street corn was good, but would have been great had it been charred better. Almost not charred at all. All garnish was on the top of the corn, so once you eat that side, you have just dry corn on the other side. The flavors were great though. My Seema taco had no Seema to be found! My Bistec was one of the best taco’s I’ve ever eaten. The Dog I ordered was the Sonoran Dog. Dog was split grilled. To me that’s a rookie mistake, split grilling allows all the flavorful juices escape. Small dog lost in the big bun. The bun was Chicago style with poppy seeds on it. It was warm and fresh. The dog was just ok. To be fair the place was slammed on a Friday night. Everyone was motivated and working hard! Great service!!!!! The prices of the food was more than fair. Cooks need to focus on attention to detail. With a Nano menu every item has to be a home run. I’d be interested to see what the chef could do with a real kitchen. At the end of the day I will be back. This place has great promise. Looking forward to my next visit. 4 stars because my intention is to help not hurt. Just a consumer’s...
Read moreHOLY MOLY. We could NOT have been more pleased with our entire experience with Casa Amado, who brought their food truck to our wedding on Belle Isle in Detroit. Emilia was the best possible event coordinator for us. She was ON POINT the entire time, making sure we had the right numbers, that we had our timing down, that all our paperwork was in order, and that we knew what to expect. We made a few adds and changes along the way (adding vegan hot dogs later on in the planning stage, for an example), and she and the team took it in stride. Chef Amado and his whole team were SPECTACULAR, throughout the entire process. A few months before the event, we met with Amado on Belle Isle to go over logistics, layout, and planning. And then on the Big Day, Sept. 30th, 2023, they absolutely CRUSHED IT with service. There were zero flaws. The food was incredible. I know a few people needed a few things special (like making sure their tacos had no cheese, or asking what their options would be if they had a dietary restriction), and the team delivered, with joy and zero hesitation. Chef Amado took pics with us, and the team made sure my (brand new!) wife and I got to EAT, which often doesn't happen on a wedding day (and, having never gotten married before, I can see WHY!!!). I love these guys. You should give them your business. We sure will.
Thank you, Emilia, Chef Amado, and the ENTIRE CREW. This was the best day and you were a big part of that.
With love from Hanna...
