On my first visit to any town, as a lifetime comic/game store lover, I HAVE to visit all of the local shops and get a feel for what's going on. Comic Shops are one of the few last bastions of retail that hasn't been completely homogenized, and as such, when I walk into to one I never quite know for sure what I'm going to get. Today was no different! I walked into Paper Asylum first, before any other shops in the area, and as far as my first impressions of Beverly go, I may be smitten. The shop is bright, clean, and chock full of anything a growing nerd needs in their pop culture diet. The shelves are lined with comics and trades, toys and boardgames, and even the odd trading card game. As an MTG fan for many years I couldn't help but look through their wares. The service was great and my GF and I had an excellent conversation with the owner talking about all sorts of things related to hobbies and games. If I could leave a 6th star I would, but the only thing remotely close to criticism I have is that there didn't look like there was a place to play said games, but I may just not have seen it (some shops squirrel them away where they can fit them and I was also quite distracted by all the cool stuff).

Great to visit this shop in the quaint and laid back town of Beverley. They were super friendly and patient with my crazy, young children. We picked up a few comics and some cool action figures, plus a doll for my daughter. The kids section was also really great!

these guys screwed alot of people over on ebay. they were taking orders for batman damned when it was selling at an average of 50 dollars for both covers for 40. so me and about 100 or more other people chose them since they have a good feeback record well they didn't actually have them yet and even tho in the title said it was gonna be rare chose to sell them before they got there extra copies in. a guy I know that runs a small comic book Shop was smart enough to know he wouldn't be getting any more when I asked him about buying a few copies. all they had to do was put pre sale for back orders so people knew the risk but instead we all got notifications of the cancellation when the set was up to 150 already. also been 4 days and no refund yet. I know this is long but I hope you choose to go some place else to buy your comics if only to help me and all the others they screwed out of time and money thank you for your time if you read all this angry rant. paper...

Walked into Paper Asylum tonight to check it out and were greeted by a guy who says "Guess you missed the closed sign on the door, huh?" We were both shocked, and I think the guy could tell we were surprised by his statement, so he backtracked and said, "Yeah, we are closed, but since you're here feel free to look around." No thank you, we were barely steps into the place and turned around and walked out. This guy either doesn't care at all about the business or doesn't want to make money. And by the way, the "closed" sign on the front door is the most UNDERSTATED closed sign I've ever seen. Treat people nicely. Even if you had said, "Hey sorry, we just closed, feel free to come back another time," we would've happily obliged and probably apologized for not noticing the store hours. We won't step foot into this place ever...
