Family Fare Supermarket — Local services in Bismarck

I'd like to know why my wife had her small personal bag searched by a cashier involuntarily at cash register. She frequently rides her bike to Dan's to buy little groceries for the house and finds it easy to bring along a little backpack to bring the groceries home. There is absolutely no reason to without asking grab customer's bag and search every little zipper in it to see if they stole something. My wife was shocked and embarrassed by the lady who sifted through all of her personal items in front of the waiting line and the bagger. Absolutely inappropriate.

I did contact the manager who said he'd do some research into the problem and that should absolutely not be happening as it was totally against policy. Unfortunately, my wife is too embarrassed to return to the store, which is very conveniently located for us. As a retail manager, if one of my employees had done this, I would have no choice but to immediately...

Dan's is convenient, with several locations around town. They typically have a decent selection on most items. Sale items are a reasonable price, but Dan's regular prices are much higher on most items than other stores in Bismarck or Mandan. Their meat and deli department is unreliable in terms of quality. I have gotten moldy cheese and other items--which I intended to use immediately upon purchasing...but I had to return. At first I ignored these issues due to convenience and just got replacement groceries somewhere else. Then I started returning items (produce, deli meats and cheeses) if they had mold growing on them upon opening the package that very same day (their return policy is pretty good, I'll give them that). Dan's is very overpriced and offer little in the way of organic, fresh or free of antibiotics, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and non-GMO foods either fresh or frozen! They have scaled waay back from the food items they use to offer their customers. I do a lot more of my grocery shopping at other stores, like Target, Walmart and Cashwise because they offer more, have more competitive prices and also give their customers coupons, sales and markdown on alot of their foods and other items in their stores. I, like most people, want to SAVE money when we go grocery shopping and not feel like we just gave a kidney to put food on table...
