South End Food Emporium — Local services in Boston

I went to the store like I usually do every morning to purchase a snack for my son's school. I picked out two bags of chips and cookies, but then realized my son only wanted one bag of chips. After I paid for the items, the cashier told me to return the extra bag of chips. I explained that I was in a hurry to get to my son's bus stop and that I had never been asked to do this before, neither at that store nor any other grocery or retail store I have been to. Later, I went back to the store and spoke to the manager about what happened. The manager defended the cashier's actions by mentioning his long employment history. It's convenient and prices are less expensive than a convenient store. However, the staff is a bunch of desperate men. One of them asked me if I had a boyfriend. Another gave me grief for not saying hello to him on the street as if we know each other. (What a creep.) Half of them don't like to bag groceries. I used to go here all the time because it's convenient, but the men give me anxiety, so now, I'd rather walk farther to Whole Foods or CVS to get what I need just to avoid the borderline harassment while grocery shopping. 🙄 So, if you're a guy, this store will do because they'll leave you alone, but if you're a young, female BIPOC, don't...

Wonderful people, nice little selection of produce, specialty groceries, and premium ice creams. Extremely good coffee! I've never really loved the coffee at nearby neighborhood cafes, and it took me far too long to discover that the people who run this place take their coffee seriously!
