I am a recovering Catholic and anxious about feeling comfortable and not only do I feel like I am back again, but also in very good company. I've been through many excellent Boston Christian churches and all the white misses this very special RC community, offering so much good contemporary theology, warm fellow communicants all led by a man we love very much as a spiritual guide, homilist, and administrative leader with first class staff. After mass we are hosted in the moden cafe with catered foods. Because of Fr John's down to earth human touch we are a large parish,; for good reasons. Interested ones of us can stream Sunday mass and past services too. This Saturday we are having a retreat with theolgians Steve Pope of Boston College and our own John Unni. A favorite group of mine is our biweekly Senior Meeting where I meet the. Most interesting people. At 2 masses I estimate 1,000 total in church and 5,000 Far Flung Flockers streaming in from all over. The world so near or far this is all plain old fascinating. I'm...
Read moreThis must be one of the best catholic communities I have ever been to. It is extremely welcoming to all, and very active, with regular events from the social and racial justice group, the Rainbow ministry for LGBT+ catholics, and a vibrant young adult community. Besides this, Father John brings real life to the Mass. Not only is he a brilliant speaker, bringing every-day current event issues to relevance in his homilies, but he is also incredibly personable, warmly greeting each member of the congregation personally, and making all feel appreciated and welcome. On top of it all, the church is located next to the Berkeley conservatory, and so we are always treated to the best of musical accompaniment for each service. If you are looking for a church community to call your home, or even to visit during a shorter stay in the city, please come...
Read moreBeautiful church, but not authentically Catholic. Both the bulletin and priest’s homily presented politically left leaning messages that are not consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Catholics do not “celebrate” pride, or Pride. I also left the Mass questioning its validity, as the priest did not say the Alleluia before the Gospel reading, and changed the words of the Nicene Creed from “was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man” to “was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became flesh.” Will look for a different Catholic church when in Boston again. Do...
