This will be a first for me. I have never written an unfavorable review of any company before, but I truly feel that I need to let people know about our experience at Mike and Sterling's. My wife and I received a bid from them to install hard wood floors in a little over 700 square feet in our house. We found the wood that we wanted to use, and like any savvy consumer we looked to see if we could find it anywhere at a cheaper price. Unfortunately for Mike and Sterling's, we did find it remarkably cheaper at a store in Houston, TX (even with the added shipping). However, we still wanted to give Mike and Sterling part of the business because they had been so good to us when we first came in. We decided to buy all of the trim and the built-in wood vents from Mike and Sterling (approximately $300 worth of material). We were told by an employee to come into the store and she would be happy to help us with it. When my wife went to the store tonight to order and purchase the pieces, she was sent to be helped by none other than one of the owner's, Mike. Mike was friendly at the beginning until he heard that we had ordered the bulk of the wood from another store. He quickly turned nasty and told my wife that it wasn't worth it to him to handle such a small order and told her to call someone else. My wife was clearly frustrated after being told to come in and hauling our one-month old to the store with her. Mike told her that he was a small business and he would rather not help her. When I heard of the experience and heard my wife almost in tears, I decided to call and speak with Mike. When I asked him about it on the phone he told me that, "I probably should have handled that a little better." I agreed and told him that no customer should be treated that way, and asked why he would ever turn away business. Little did he know, we have another 1200 square feet of flooring we need to order and would have likely gone through them in a couple months. I told him that I was really ticked, to which he replied, "You can go ahead and be ticked, I'm running a business here." To that, I simply let him know that I would be sharing our experience on any available review site that I could find and that I would be telling people about it. Mike cut me off and said, "Oh, now you sound like a really great guy!" His inability to help a customer and drive business for his own store is unbelievable. We will NEVER step foot in Mike and Sterling's again. If you are looking for flooring, please visit Kay Riley. They carry better quality flooring at much more reasonable pricing and are located in Bountiful as well. They know how to treat customers and would never turn away a sale no matter how small or insignificant...
Read moreMike & Sterling's Flooring America was unprofessional, disrespectful and dishonest. Zero stars if I could. I contracted with them to retile my bathroom shower and floor and paid a substantial down payment, over $1,000. Work was scheduled to begin several weeks later. However, the individual scheduled to do the work, Levi, never showed up. I had to contact Mike & Sterling's the following day to tell them. They rescheduled the work for three weeks later. A second time, Levi simply did not show up. Mike & Sterling's never contacted me. I had to contact them again to inform them that Levi had not come. After discussions with Gina, the sales person, we rescheduled the work for another 3 weeks out and I was told that due to the delay in the job, I would not be charged for labor. Work began at this third scheduled time however, the individual doing the work, Lazaro, broke my shower glass fittings, making them unusable. I had been told I could replace them and in fact paid, upfront, the reinstallation fee to do so. Lazaro also left a 2 inch wide, 7 foot high, strip of bathroom wall with no covering other than a black adhesive. In addition, he broke a hole in the bathroom wall and left a gouge in the entryway wall, which were left unrepaired. He also broke a shelf that had been attached to the wall. In the end, Mike & Sterling's sent Gina, the sales person, to tile the strip of wall that had been left bare, said they would not take responsibility for the broken shower glass fittings and lied about why the work was delayed twice without notice. Sterling told me that Levi did come to my home, tore out the floor and found there was damage. Sterling said that it then took extra time to find someone experienced enough to finish the work. This was a blatant lie. Levi NEVER came to my home and certainly never tore out the floor. Sterling told me that he would only give me credit for the "work Levi did," (Levi never showed up so did NO work), and agreed to deduct only $88.00 from my final bill. Mike & Sterling's Flooring America was unprofessional, disrespectful and dishonest (yes, I realize I said that previously). I will NEVER do business with Mike &...
Read moreWorst Experience Ever! We have a bathroom wall that was tiled using Mike and Sterling. This is the first time we've used an outside company to do any work in our home and I deeply regret it. In hind site I realize that as soon as we had our first issue we should have used someone else but the company had such great reviews we went ahead with the tile project. Below is a list of issues we had. I would NOT recommend this company.
1 - During the estimate process we would call and it would take several calls and usually a few days to even get a call back.
2- The installation tech showed up the first day with the WRONG tile, even though my husband had personally gone to Dal tile, picked the tile out, and called the office with the tile and chair railing #'s. My husband had to go back to Dal tile, confirm that he had the right #'s and actually bring the tile back to our house.
3- The installer actually hung up the wrong width backer board on the wall. If my husband hadn't caught it before he started tiling we would have had to start all over. As it was the installer did have to take the backer board off and start over with that part of the job.
The whole first day of the job was a waste and my husband had to take the day off to deal with all the errors. The tile is installed; the quality is okay and for all of the issues we had we're not getting any kind of discount but are being charted a re-stocking fee for the error they made. My husband called the company on that first issue filled day and was told we would be taken care of for the mess the day had been and the time my husband had had to spend overseeing this job because we weren't sure it would get done right. Instead all we got were additional charges...
