This past Wednesday was different. Not all of the vendors were present, due to rain sprinkles earlier in the afternoon. Then the wind picked up. And it was the last week for the farmers market, so everyone thought. But on the 24th it moves to the Calico, Sage, an Thyme location -- outside if the weather permits. I found fresh vegetables that I rarely see. The brussel sprouts grow on a very thick stalk. I found gold beets; turnips, & colored carrots with their green tops still on; fresh apple cider, and local honey; pumpkins of various types sizes, and shapes. I saw the purple plums, but not when I went back to get them.    Read moreThe vendors are great but the environment at the entrances are intimidating. There are always people petitioning or handing out papers and I was microaggressed as an immigrant. One of them slowed down their speech and told me “welcome to the states” even though I have been here over 15 years. This can be very terrifying for people and students and feels very unsafe to access the market, so that is going to hurt the vendors’ businesses as well. I was told that no one has complained about this so I hope there’s more that can be done to make the environment safer, especially for immigrants like myself who face racism everyday.
