I like the store but the new ammo purchasing policy has turned me away after years of shopping there. You have to purchase all ammo at the gun counter, scan QR code with your phone to get a number to stand in line to buy ammo (all 9mm and .223/5.56 are behind the counter). Manager told me it was because of theft. My question was "So if you don't have a Smartphone you can't buy ammo at Bass Pro anymore?" I was told you can order online or someone at the gun counter will give you a number; I pointed out they won't give you a number because they won't stop and talk to you unless your number was called, besides that they all seemed to be busy selling guns and ignoring the people waiting for ammo. Luckily, when I was waiting at Customer Service to speak to a manager some guy who's order got screwed up had 2 boxes of 9mm I was able to buy at Customer Service when he returned it, but I wasn't going to wait an hour to buy some 5.56. I get you want to prevent theft, but if you're going to make this change then have some people dedicated at the back counter for ammo sales only and make it so people can pick a number without using their phones. Seems like your new process is also going to make gun sales take longer.
UPDATE: After a few weeks and seeing the reply to my review I decided to give it another try. Went back to the Brandon, Florida BPS, around 2pm , 12/15, I went to the the gun counter, per the manager's previous instructions I asked a worker there (short, older, grey hair) if he could enter a number for my place in line as I don't have a smartphone. As he rudely walked away from me, he just as rudely ( I would describe more like rude AF) told me "Find someone who is logged in", and kept walking. I yelled to him (because he was about 20 feet away from me by the time he finished speaking) "I don't work here so how do I know who is logged in?" and he kept walking. I went down and asked someone who was on their computer after explaining what their co-worker did. This person tried to help but as he was logging me in a guy in line pointed to his name, third in line, and said he's been in that spot for 30 minutes and I shouldn't waste my time; he also said it would be the last time they get any of his money. Bass Pro in Brandon, Florida has become no better than Walmart, rude workers who don't want to help, and most of their products (including all those "patriotic" decorations) have tags that say "Made in China" (check it out the next time you're there. I'll take my business to Sportsmans Warehouse or Academy sports,...
Read moreMy experience with Bass Pro was extremely negative to say the least. I had to give one star because that's requited but really they get ZERO. The lack of customer service and profiling which I believe is racial is unacceptable. I went with my wife for her to purchase a firearm. My wife was excited because it was her first firearm purchase. She waited the time period requested and her background came back clear. On the day of pick up she was told that they refunded the cost of the firearm back to the card because they suspected it to be a straw purchase. Their basis was that because my wife is a first time buyer this wasn't the type of firearm a first time purcher buys. Equally It was told to her they suspected the purchase was for me. I am a cleared firearm gun permit holder a Federal Employee and retired military police therefore their assumptions were in error.
BASS PRO Has lost a loyal customer of several years based on something they ASSUMED equally the store manager was very belligerent as I tried to get an understanding as to why wife was denied to pick up the firearm which she was cleared to purchase. This experience made my wife feel we were discriminated against and profiled based on our nationality. We observed WHITE couples purchase with no issues or problems. One couple told us it was how we were treated and expressed they never have had issues which leads us to believe our denial indeed is racial based or at the leasye racially profieled.
My wife being a first time purchaser the type if gun she decided to purchase has no barren on her right to purchase. BASS PRO on Riverview in Brandon Florida seems to have had previous complaints regarding this same thing. To my BLACK AND BROWN brothes and sisters do not shop at BASS PRO. The appearance is they are racist and based on the interactions we encountered at this store in particular we are canceling our credit card and will never spend a dime with any entity associated with Cabela's...
