Imagine middle school kids, just before Thanksgiving break, give them a special movie afternoon, supplied with unlimited skittles, mountain dew, and hot chocolate, turn off all the lights, put on flashing, strobe like laser lights, and don't supervise them-- yah, that's what Friday night Galactic Glow was like. Oh, and pump in loud guitar rock music from the aughts. Not for the faint of heart, or if you maybe don't want to navigate unidentifiable flying small things swishing at, behind, zig-zagging in all directions around you. Or large huddled obstacles called teens in the middle of the skate path. Or fast moving skaters using those balance frames like snow plows aimed at the weak and wobbly-- or using them to bang on the ice, like they are at a hockey game. "Staff" were present, but apparently over-matched by this Fri night crowd. Surprised no one was or has been seriously hurt-- it's a scary injury ready to happen. Also, pretty dirty. Not recommended for middle-age skaters who just want an easy glide, peaceful glide. Oh, and last thing-- yes, it's really...
Read moreRegarding Learn to Skate: it's a little chaotic, especially for little kids in the first classes. Long line at the door, long line to get skates, haphazard getting the skates (out of sizes), no place to sit, big hockey bags to step over. This all makes it a bit nerve-racking for a 3-4 year old (they can't step over big bags in skates they're just learning to walk in that may be too big/small).
The classes are also probably too big for little kids just learning. Some kids are crying and just left there to cry, some hanging on the wall looking for their parents, etc. I think if there were fewer kids and more personal attention could be paid, they would enjoy it. When an instructor eventually comes over to a child, they are fine. They just need some reassurance and help.
For the first classes - WEAR WATERPROOF GLOVES AND PANTS. They will be all over the ice. Maybe even crawling on the ice...
Basically, just teach your little to skate on ice yourself then start...
Read moreIce skating is fine, but parties? Not worth it. I booked this place for my kid’s birthday party, expecting a nicely prepared room with colorful plates, tablecloths, and an organized setup. I arrived an hour early to check the room, only to find it filled with other people’s belongings, including smelly shoes. They assured me the room would be cleaned and freshened up on time, but things didn’t improve much.
The pizza arrived late while the kids were waiting, so I suggested they skate first. However, the ice skating area was closed and wouldn’t reopen for another 15 minutes. The kids became frustrated and started complaining. Overall, the party experience was disappointing and not worth the...
