T & J Nail Salon — Local services in Bridgeport

I was a customer for a decade & stopped getting my nails done because of the service here. While they are reliable for last minute things, I would never recommend this place to my friends/family. I’ve never seen them disinfect tools before using them on someone else. They definitely do try to upcharge for anything little thing to get extra dollars out of you especially if you’re (a new guest ) someone they’ve never seen before. They are quick to up a refill an extra $20 even though the work underneath is theirs. If they think they are working over another salon’s work, you are definitely paying extra. One time, they gave me someone other than my usual person, and they asked who did my nails; expecting an answer outside of the shop and I said here. He began to shake his head and said that the his coworker who was my usual is no good because my apex shape was horrible. & Johnny himself is a great artist but not a great person. I tried to book an appointment with him through the phone number and they told me I had to book him through instagram. So I was texting his page on instagram 3 weeks before I needed my nails done and he ignored me until the final week and told me he didn’t have any availability. OBVIOUSLY, he wanted to waste my time. Not sure what the bad reviews are about. I have been going here for a few years-not as an every 2 week client but as much as I need and would like to treat myself. I have had Tommy (owner), Tom, Mai and Mimi and all have been absolutely excellent. I am pretty basic-I enjoy a full nude set almost 99.9% of the time so I backed off of Tommy because I know he likes more creative work. The others exceeded my expectations. All of them have been patient and kind to me. I had a pedicure there today and bless the woman that did it. I sadly did not catch her name but she took her time and was very chill and sweet. In regards to people saying that the employees have “attitudes” no one there is going to emotional babysit you. They are there to perform a service and if you get the right one-jokes/satire to be expected. I am sarcastic and dry with my humor so I enjoy some jabs primarily Tommy gives out. I went to this salon early this afternoon. I was not at all satisfied with my service due to the nail tech’s (Mimi) rude nature and attitude. I understand that some people go to nail salons frequently and understand the procedure, but since I’m not a frequent salon-goer, I asked questions but it felt as though I was an inconvenience and I was irritating her. My gel nails came out misshapen, the polish was uneven, and the shape was too “stubby.” I also did not receive hand lotion or a hand massage, which I thought was a common service at places that do manicures. I have leftover residue from the gel manicure that they took off for me and I was overall dissatisfied and let down.
