I recently had Mr. Appliance out to diagnose an issue I was having with my Whirlpool washing machine, but will never work with this company again.
As the technician started to investigate, he commented that he had never heard that type of noise before. It was a loud screeching / rattling noise. He then proceeded to tip the washer back and look at a few things underneath and then read the codes on the machine. Nothing was revealing itself as the issue, but after hearing the noise a second time he quickly proclaimed that I had a bad transmission. His reaction led me to thinking it was more of a baffled guess rather than a true diagnosis.
The technician gave me a quote for $593 to fix my machine, and given that a new machine only cost $714 (tax and delivery included), I opted not to have him fix the machine. He also mentioned that I could consider fixing it myself, so instead of shelling out the money for a new unit, that's the route I took. I'm mechanically inclined and I've performed many repairs on my appliances over the years. I'm an engineer, and they're usually a fairly simple fix, but the noise my washer was producing had me stumped. This is the reason I called in a pro before I started dumping money into repairs. Long story short, I spent over $300 for the new parts, and $109 for Mr. Appliance's diagnostic fee, putting me at about $425 total only to find out that the DIAGNOSIS WAS WRONG. That's correct - I removed the wash basket and other internals, unbolted components from the transmission and then replaced the transmission itself, only to find out that my washer was making the same exact noise. Not only was the service call a waste, but all the time, effort, and money that I spent based on the technician's "diagnosis" was also a waste.
There's more to the story. In the Terms & Conditions Mr. Appliance sent me AFTER I paid, it indicates that Mr. Appliance is not responsible for "Additional work beyond that specifically mentioned in this estimate and proposal including, but not limited to, any additional work revealed to be necessary as a result of performing the specified work.” This means that if I had them repair the unit, the cost would have likely been much higher than the $593 quoted, since the technician would need to continue the diagnosis and replace additional components until it was fixed.
I rarely leave reviews, but felt it was necessary in this case. Needless to say I'm very disappointed with this interaction, and would never use or recommend Mr....
Read moreI would not use nor recommend this company. We purchased a new oven and it stopped working after about 90 days. This company was contracted to fix it from the manufacturer. They came out a total of 4 times, twice to diagnose and order parts and twice to install and supposedly fix the oven. All visits required me to take time away from work in order to be available for the technician to come out. After the last visit the technician told us that the reason our oven was not working was that there was a problem with the outlet and we needed an electrician to come out and fix that issue. We called an electrician and spent over $150 having him go through all aspects of our electrical including the plug for the oven and breaker box. The electrician informed us that there were zero issues with our service. We were left without many options, since the technician from Mr Appliance wrote his repair reports stating that the problem was fixed. Fortunately the retailer we purchased from took the bad oven back and gave us a new model. Since we received the new oven we have had zero issues. The sad thing about this situation is that the technician told me on one of his visits that we were lucky to have his company to fix this. He told me the normal service companies manufacturers use for warranty work are not trained properly and cause more problems then they fix. My experience shows that he is the one that needed additional training. After communicating my frustrations with the company on their internal survey that was sent out, the service manger Rick called me. He proceeded to tell me how what they did was correct and there was nothing else that would be done. They never fixed the oven, but I’m sure they were paid for the warranty work. It is a fortunate thing we were able to work with the retailer to get a new oven. Otherwise we would be out money for a new oven as well. Choose wisely and avoid...
Read moreDO NOT use Mr.Appliance! They are owned by a company called "neighborly company",which is a massive network of appliance repair businesses, and they're not even from Michigan.Do your research!I was trying to find a local washing machine repair man, someone who lives in my own community. The first thing I noticed was every time I called,I got a different "receptionist ".Mr.Appliance is also located in every county:Livingston county,Oakland county, etc. The "receptionists" are nice to you when you're a new customer looking to schedule a repair appointment, but they aren't willing to work around YOUR (the customer's)schedule, they schedule your appointment that makes it convenient for them! And my service technician wasn't even from my community. He lives in Fenton! Then they make you make 2 appointments, the first one is just to assess the appliance and the problem it's having. They don't have the parts needed to do the repair, they have to order the parts, and they get mailed to your house. Another week goes by waiting for the parts to come in the mail, then the technician has to come back a 2nd time to do the actual repair. In the meantime,I had to use my local laundromat just to get my laundry done!Mr.Appliance doesn't care that you have a work schedule, they make you take 2 days off of work for the repair to be assessed and then again when they want their technician to do the repairs. These big "networks" are only concerned about their bottom line $$$ and there is no concern for the customer! Please do your research and stay away from "Mr.Appliance,a...
