I don’t want to be completely unfair to Petco as a whole but I have extreme problems with the fish and aquatics sections. It seems that almost every time I bring home a fish from Petco it is carrying some sort of bacterial infection or has torn/rotting fins and I need to take a trip the next day for a refund on the dead fish. These are all avoidable ailments with proper water conditions and care from Petco staff. I don’t know if it is a corporate wide issue or a store by store basis but it hurts my heart to walk into the store and see betta fish almost dead in plastic containers with disgusting water and tiny betta marketed tanks I honestly wouldn’t put a guppy in. Even when water parameters are near perfect there always seems to be something they come up with to blame. I have a tank of completely healthy guppies and I brought home three from Petco upon acclimating the fish a releasing them into the tank one immediately swam the the bottom and showed some aggression (I haven’t ever seen before in guppies, they normally stay near the top of the water) one that could barely swim and had clenched fins that showed signs of an infection, and one that acted normal. A day later the one with signs of infection died and the aggressive one can now barely swim and is having a hard time breathing. When I took the fish in for a refund and a water test they said the nitrates were high and likely the reason it died, there was babies in that tank that were showing no signs of high nitrate levels or anything wrong with any of the other water parameters health wise when they were the most at risk. Guppies are pretty hardy fish and can normally withstand changes in temperature and water parameters so there’s no reason a young fish should die within 24 hours with the proper equipment and care if it was healthy before the sale. I’ve been keeping guppies for about a year and never had any fall ill or contact a bacterial infection. I’ve also had similar experiences with betta fish from Petco. Again I don’t want to discredit there other services and animals but if your looking to adopt fish make sure your doing proper research before hand and try to shop at local fish stores. Update: The aggressive fish developed dropsy and that is what caused the trouble swimming doing some research on how to help the poor guy I found common causes of dropsy include poor diet, bacterial infections, and poor water quality all things that would have been developed in Petco and amplified by the stress of moving and again easily avoided with proper care. The fish died right as I finished writing...
Read moreRead moreFirst off I love Petco as a whole. I have 4 Great Pyrenees. 2 of which are 12 years old and I have taken them to their grooming department for 12 years several times a year. The stores in Antelope and Orangevale CA have always been so good and thorough and have always told me how much they love my dogs. However I recently moved back to Colorado (I just had them groomed at the Antelope CA store April 25th for the trip) and now brought them into the Broomfield store. First off the lady when we called and made the appointment complained about how she would be the only one working on both dogs. Then when we dropped them off she mentioned absolutely nothing about them being so matted and problems and in fact said both of them would be ready in 3-4 hours. Of course 5 hours go by, no call nothing, so I called in and no one in grooming answered the phone at all. So we drove in and went inside and she said that it would still be about 15-20 minutes. So now we are at 6 hours which is fine but then upon paying I came out and thought the total I was charged seemed way too high. I looked at the receipt and was charged $304. First off my female doge is not XL Petco grooming cutoff is over 75 or 78lbs and she has always been 71-73 so first off she over charged me there. Then on top of the 2 charges for FULL GROOMING BATHS she charged me a separate charge for the De shedding which she did not ask or authorize (but ok fine if I was asked I would have done it) then she charged me more for a spa package and then 3 qty at $15 each for shave and brushout….. Which first off there are 2 dogs not 3... but furthermore that is all part of the first charge..... She then had the nerve to tell me I should take them to the VET to be groomed. RIDICULOUS they have been groomed at PETCO for 12 years multiple times a year and are fine, and my other 2 have been groomed at PETCO without a single groomer ever having an issue for 7 years (they are younger). Horrible service. Again love PETCO as a whole. But you as the groomer chose your profession if you can not or are unwilling to do the job or have lost the passion and desire to be courteous and professional time to pick another career maybe one not around people. And after overcharging me $304 of which I have never paid that much how much hubris does it take to have asked for a tip? I have never had a PETCO groomer ask for a tip as the services are paid at the register through the company as are...
This is place is fantastic!! I am very impressed with the staff. I had an incident last Friday with my puppy who was waiting for his puppy class to start. A customer brought her boston terrier up to my rather large 10 month old puppy. I advised the lady to not bring her dog to close as he is a puppy and likes to be a puppy and that he likes to jump. She refused to listen to me as she continued to approach us with her dog. Her dog walked up to my dog and bit him in the face which caused him to yelp, she just stood there and let her dog do it again. Needless to say we get him into class to realize he is bleeding and has 2 separate lacerations. I have to say when we notified "Jenni" who is the perfect trainer for my puppy and my family, (I totally love her BTW if you are looking for a puppy trainer) anyway Jenni and the Store Manager jumped all over it when they were notified of the situation and right away they told me I needed to get my puppy to the emergency vet to have him checked out to prevent infection and make sure there was not any other care needed. They got on the phone and advised the vet we were coming over and that they were taking care of the bill. They advised me that class would have to be skipped and that we could make it up at the end of the 6 weeks. Right before we left they expressed deep concern for my puppies well being and they were very adament that we call them after we leave the vet to let them know how things went. I have to say it is very stand up to be concerned for myt puppy but I also think it is amazing that they want to provide a safe environment for peoples pets and if an injury occurs they will send you to a vet and take care of the bill, also I think it is very stand up that they I was able to reach them after hours at the store since they were waiting for my call and the deep care and concern I got from them was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Jenni and the Store Manager both advised me at that time that if some type of issue comes up later ie: infection etc... to contact them and they will cover the cost of that as well. All in all I have never had anexperience like this with an animal before and I must say they took care of business and it is much appreciated.
Thanks...
