I joined to do yoga classes after a Crossfit injury. Since there are not many options in Brownsville for yoga and childcare at the same place and being a yoga novice myself, I had a flexible standard I was willing to go with.
I can only describe the classes as weird. Itās like they asked their standard group class instructors who could teach yoga. A couple of them raised their hands and that was all the training they got. It definitely felt like the instructors were leading a class with no yoga experience and just doing these weird moves and thinking āthis is yoga, right...?ā
For example- we were told to āget into this positionā (which was a warrior pose with no direction on breathe or positioning) and then we stood there in this half assed pose and waved our arms overhead and down to the side, kinda like slowly flapping our wings (yoga...right???). In another class we spent 20 of the 60 minutes just laying on our backs with an occasional cue to roll onto our stomachs. There was no directive for breathing, thought processing, stretching. Just lay there (yoga?). There were some classes where all I can describe the movements are is possibly African dance....? And they would try to just add big breathes and swooping arm motions to make it yogaish. I tried all the yoga classes, none of them were actual yoga, just weird and felt like an afterthought from the instructors, like they got thrown into leading the class ill prepared and just tried to wing it by what they thought yoga was.
Childcare has been good, though. My 2 year old enjoys going. Itās pretty bare so older kids would probably be bored, but the workers have been polite and...
