This place has really gone down hill lately.. It used to be a cool place to go to, but no longer. They overcharge most of the items in this store. Newsflash, it's cluttered and you're not selling a lot of items for a reason! They have items that are sold brand new at Five Below and they're charging more for a used item. Funkopops are a hit or miss, mainly miss. New funkopops that are still be being sold and manufactured, they're upcharging a lot for. They'll even overcharge a used, beat up, out of the box funkopop. It's laughable! I brought this to the attention of one their employees and they told me they just go off of ebay listing. There's a difference between people listing items on ebay and items actually being sold on eBay. It seems like they do just a quick Google search of a generic listing and go off of that instead of researching what items are actually sold for. This place is extremely cluttered and trashy beyond belief. The majority of the employees are extremely unhelpful as well. I called ahead asking for a specific item and was told they had plenty of them. Show up ten minutes later and they had zero in stock. The employee was just too lazy to check and assume they had it. Also, they sell bootlegged items, which I don't think should be allowed. One time I got double charged for an item and they refused to refund me because it's their policy. However, it was 100% the employees fault for charging me twice. They did find a movie I was after, but it was below the price they overcharged me for and without a case. They wouldn't even give me a discount and let me get a movie that was a dollar over the price to use up the credit after their mistake. In the end I got the cheaper movie, so they essentially stole money from me. I called another time asking for a specific movie series, female employee said nope. I asked if she was sure and if she didn't mind checking to confirm. She refused again and said she knows for a fact because she also wants the series and she's going to snag them if they come in. I understand the benefits of a job, but maybe don't flat out tell the customer that or at least say it in a nicer way. I even talked about the series to make sure we were talking about the same thing and she said that's not what the series was about, so either way I'm pretty sure she was just being lazy and didn't want to check. I mainly only come here when there's a movie I'm wanting and don't want to pay the streaming price for it. However, I think I'll just pay for the movie online to avoid coming here. Overall just a trashy and disappointing store. I haven't been to the Cleburne location in a long time, but they were much more organized...
Read moreThis place is great. It’s a less-than-corporate game store that still feels like a mom and pop shop than the former. They obviously have some guidelines to adhere to, but you can tell that there is a lot of heart in the employees. This comes through in the last part of this review.
I’ve had a few trips up here, and they all were very good. However, I want to point out two visits in particular.
One, I had a friend that had a bunch of random electronics stuff that he was going to just give to me because I’m the nerd. I told him to take it up to Game X Change to see if they could get a game or two for the kids’ PS5. Well, skip to the future and the stuff was worth about $450 in store credit. The guy behind the counter even pointed out that the PlayStation they had was the one that still had backward compatibility. That alone was worth about $50 over the other version. Did not have to do that whatsoever, but it made a big splash with me, and I haven’t forgotten that.
The second visit just happened. I won’t go into details, but you can imagine that bringing a big box of stuff up to a pawn shop or the like doesn’t usually happen if your life is going the greatest. (Outside of my first story) Well, the red-haired lady behind the counter went above and beyond to get me the most that my stuff was worth. As stated before, there is obviously a little corporate guidelines, but she seemed to know all the right buttons to push on the computer. I feel really bad that I didn’t get her name, but I do believe she was the only one with red-hair there.
Now, if either of these stories gets a higher-up’s attention in a negative light (due to employees being customer advocates), please reach out to me. I will swear to them that the couple bucks here and there will turn into a much higher percentage of me being a customer at this location.
You really don’t see this kind of store anymore. Especially with most electronics related places pushing harder and harder to be completely online. It takes a strong business structure to stick their neck out and stand their ground on things that, frankly, should be a human decency. If all else, the employees sure are making a big impact on the company as a whole. So much heart in a brick and...
Read moreA great place that has recently gone horribly, horribly downhill. This store used to be my favorite place to buy retro games, a great selection of games new and old from Atari 2600 all the way to the latest hardware. Sadly, that was over a decade ago. I decided to drop by for a hit of nostalgia only to be blindsided by what could easily be mistaken for the aftermath of a bombing. The game selection is, at the very least, better than GameStop, but that’s not saying much. My main complaint is with the new addition of toys, figures, and other collectibles. This practice isn’t bad on its own, in fact it’s extremely common for game stores, but the way they go about it is tragic. As a collector myself, the treatment of their used collectibles is honestly shameful. An assortment of both boxed and unboxed big figures and statues are put on display on a rickety table in the back while smaller figures are haphazardly thrown into buckets underneath. No focus or organization was considered when placing these collectibles and many big ticket items were badly damaged, and its unclear whether they came in like that or if it was a product of poor handling from the seemingly apathetic workers. The sights I saw would bring a tear to the eye of any serious collector: a beautiful limited edition The Last Of Us 2 statue missing an arm and pieces of the scenery, a Bakugo statue missing a torso, a retro Kenner Luke Skywalker missing a head and arm, the list goes on. I tried to sort through the wreckage and repair a few pieces while I was there, but I realized it was fruitless. The store is a wasteland and a shell of its former self,...
