After having been to both the Clark County Fair (Vancouver, WA, and the Orange County Fair (Costa Mesa, CA), it was a bit of a disappointment overall. Perhaps it was because we went on the first day (Thursday), and maybe it doesn't really get into full swing Friday or Saturday.
I must say, however, that I loved motorcycle jumping show, where BMX guys were doing the wildest things I've ever seen on motor cycles. Things I didn't think were humanly (or motorcycley possible.
Further, while I was expecting not to be able to eat anything while there, as county fairs are notorious for junk food, which I can no longer tolerate as a carnivore, this County Fair had multiple locations where they served the best steak-bites I have ever eaten. Local beef, cut fresh daily. My wife ate the fries since I could not. Although, I have to brag on them for cooking their fries in beef tallow. I may even have snuck one or two of those.
But don't tell anyone. I'll let you know if I suffer any...
Read moreLast year I vowed to never take my granddaughter again. Everyone, staff on rides and ponies, were from out of state and didn't speak English at all. It was kind of creepy since it is a local event.
This year, however, the people who had the pony rides were a young couple out of Western Idaho, locally owned. The food court were locals. I can't comment on the rides because we didn't do that this year because of how creepy it was last year. By creepy I mean scary when you take your almost five year old granddaughter and you can't communicate her fear to the operators and they think it's funny. It will be a long time before I trust the board of directors for the Canyon County Fair. Really gone down hill from the family environment...
Read moreI went to the fair with my fiance I wanted to do something nice for him. Got our tickets (8 bucks a piece). Went in not knowing you had to pay for other tickets to actually ride the rides, saw the price it'd be 8 dollars to go on A ride I was considering it then decided screw it. Went up.. guy didn't even look up at us, ignored us through a protective glass and shooed us away. We didn't ride anything jus got shoved around and sprayed with a beer can for $16. (The lady at the ticket booth when entering was nice but everything was closed down when we walked out so I lost 16 dollars. I'm no Karen I never leave reviews but this was just...
